Cant select and gears.............

driving home in my 91 TT manual.

Not doing anything mad. come to junction, can select gear, clutch goes soft, biting point seems to be really low down.

Manage to select 1st and move off, select 2nd. next junction, press clutch when i stop, nothing there, car stalls. manage to start it and get to my mums drive and park it there, cant select any gears, clutch goes straight to floor and back up, nothing there.

Rang my mechanic buddy, he seems to think the clutch fluid has gone low.

I soooooooooooooooooooooo hope this is the correct diagnosis.

Anyone else had similar??

cheers

I had this...might be different problem so i would check and bleed ur fluid first  :x:

but I adjusted my rod..ooeerrr misus

Clutch pedal adjustment .... down by the bulk head..imposs to see easily...upside down in car...head first into foot well.

If ur fluid or rod adjustment doesnt work then maybe its the slave cylinder...or bent paddle lever or clutch has gone bye byes

How old?

Mileage?

Thanks for that ! got it up on the ramps, slave cylinder gone, all the fluid had collected into the rubber gaiter, hence no drips. Moved the gaiter, fluid everywhere!!!

I'm happy that thats all it is !!!

Im glad u found the problem...

I changed mine about three weeks ago...

Its such an easy job even i could do...lol

Just make sure you bleed the system several times as with everything on these cars there a pain in the fookin arse...mine had three bleed points on it.

I bet that made your day dai?

It did !! I initialy was seeing pound signs tumbling before my eyes!

Where will it need bleeding from then? is it not just the nipple on the slave itself??

Well...

Theres a bleed nipple on the front drivers wing just next to the HICAS unit.

Its the single one that if you follow the pipe you will see where it goes.

There is another on the slave clinder mounted on the gearbox.

The last one is not on all cars apparently...It is mounted on the end/top of the clutch master cylinder about an inch from the fluid resevoir....its next to the brake master cylinder.

As for the order of bleeding...

I was told to start at the one on the wing first but I did the slave cylinder...then the master cylinder...then the one on the wing working on the fact that air rises.

I bled it several times to clear all the air
