Does anybody have an Autobox with Smooth Gearchanges?

Im on my 3rd box and 1st to 2nd jerks into gear and sometime 2nd to 3rd drags like ive hit the brakes.

It just seems every box i have is crap, ive never felt a decent gearchange in my car since the day i had it. I know the 1st box was faulty as it lost 2nd gear, but the last box which i thought was faulty was just as smooth as my current one albeit the current one chages gear on the limit very well. Its just slow driving and my gearbox doent get on. If i rant the *****x of it its fine.

well mine was smooth as silk till it went t1ts up...TBH i bearly noticed it shifting so i couldnt say if your unlucky or not

Mine is not the snoothest but it works and to date I have had no problems saying that I thought I heard an axtra clunking noise yesterday but that may be down to the fact I had the windows open and may not have noticed it for a while with them shut.

Why dont you convert it to a manual box????

got well cheesed off with my auto box!!!!!!!

just had a rebuild weeks before i bought the car........that lasted about 3 thousand miles. got another one fitted..........lasted about 200 miles,

back to garage who repaired it..........only 80 miles this time!!!!!!!!!

gave up with the auto and got a manual conversion done by zedworld..............................and still going strong

Im so happy I bought a manual 300

My gearchanges seem to have got a lot smoother since I had my ECU replaced with a remapped one and added boost jets.... :D

Mine has nice smooth changes when I'm driving carefully and sensibly and when I ring its neck, the changes are hard and fast. Thats how it was set up when I got the box uprated.

Are there any potential poblems with converting to a manual??

I am considering buying a 300 that has been converted - arent the auto turbos smaller than the manual - does this make any difference to the speed between a "true" manual and one which has been converted?

IIRC this was discussed not too long back.

mine was an auto now changed to manual with the auto tubs. i have been told that as the auto tubs are smaller they spool up faster, which IMO is good. however the down side is they will run out of puff in higher revs before the manual tubs would.

so in theory it should be that bit faster from the start line.............

..............but then i could be wrong???!!!

changed a UK one for a reconned one from an import. Kept all the UK auto wiring ecu etc and the changes are exactly as before the first box expired. Kick down redlines it and part throttle changes are silk smooth. Think your problems might be down to tinkered with TPS or some other control function and not the box as such. I know that an incorrectly set TPS can cause abrupt changes.

How much does it usually cost to get an auto converted to manual?

cost me about £1500 which also included a brand new rps clucth from smithy and also a short shift gearstick. would cost about the same for an auto!

If your box is too smooth this can be a sign that things are on their way out. But if its OK the valve body on the Z can be modded to make the changes alot better. More responsive ie quicker acting to throtle imput. And stronger too.

The current gearbox is the fas road auto out of baggins car that was in mac1's car, so im guessing it aint the gearbox at fault.

my HKS ALC didnt work on my old box and i dont think it works on this one too so it might be atuo ecu i have to try another

im thinking spped sensor on mine as steering gets heavy when i go fast but once it does it stays heavy even when driving slow, its fine if i drive round like a grandad all the time.
