Just a quickie, hopefully someone can answer. What are the sizes for the standard discs on the 300zxTT and what are the sizes for the standard discs on an r34 gtr?

Possibly got some r34 brembos on the way, want to know if they are any bigger than the standard ones. I'm sure the performance will be much better.

yer...im interested in these points too :D

and

If you have bigger discs does it help with more braking or just the cooling or do you have to have bigger calipers as well to make the discs worthwhile?

ps...sorry to jump in here bud :mac1:

Helps with braking and cooling because the pads are being applied over a greater area (due to large diameter) there is more braking pressure applied and more time for disc to cool. I think you may need bigger calipers to cope with bigger diameter discs (different angle/curve) although I have seen kits to take the standard calipers furthur out. I doubt these work as well though because the curve in the caliper will be tighter than the disc and therefore less contact with the disc..... I guess.

Mate ,you're a star. I got the Zed ones from the service manual just a moment ago (forgot all about it earlier) and have been trying to find the r34 ones. The Zed discs are 280mm and the r34 are 324. Are there extra fittings or something with these? I am right in thinking they are a straight fit onto the Zed arn't I?

Dave

The GTR discs AND calipers will bolt straight on if it's the 33 model, 34 model is shorter bolts or something like that, sure someone will confirm. If however it's GTR sized discs ONLY being used with our calipers, then you need a special mounting bracket. I believe 300mm is the biggest you can go without needing a bracket to mount.

Can someone give some advice on this as I was set to put a deposit on these. Do R34 complete set (Calipers, discs, pads) fit on the 300?? If not what can you do to make them fit?

Please reply ASAP, Dave

Just confirmed it.

Seems the bolts are bigger on skyline. This guy gets his rotors drilled. But also shows a picture with inserts to bring the hole size down. This makes more sense to me. Any ideas anyone?

I must say, they do look awesome. Gonna have to do it I reckon. Hope I can find someone either drill the rotors or to adjust the caliper holes.

Dave

R33 calipers and discs are a straight bolt on, apart from cutting off the dust shields, on the r34 calipers you have to drill out the caliper bracket holes slightly. The discs are the same though!

How much of a job is it doing the drilling? What do you think of the other method; inserting bits into the holes to make them smaller?

You'd need to put threaded inserts in, probably not worth the hassle. Just buy a 14mm drill and drill out the hub carriers, it's not a problem.

  • Author

Just been trying to sus this out. Am I right in thinking that the thread is on the caliper?

So I only have to drill the hub carriers and don't need to rethread them?

Is it a full take off the hub assembly job then and not drill it on the car? how hard is it to do this.

Thanks all Dave

Yes, the callipar are threaded.

You can drill it on the car, but I'd remove it to make sure you drill it straight. It's pretty soft ali, so easy to put an angle on it when you drill.

Removal isn't too hard, just remove disk and calliar, then split bottom ball joint, track rod and king pin.
