I'm thinking of changing my alarm as it's played up now and again and I was just wondering if anyone has a Clifford alarm on their car and what they think about them, is there any annoying they have found with them?

Thanks

Vijay

Vijay - I have a Concept 300 on my car, with the dual zone proximity, and a pager tied into it.

To be honest, it's always been rather.. hyperactive on my car.. never did really get to the bottom of it - another job for when it's running again.

Other than that, it's been fine..

Vijay,

I've got a Concept 300 too, had it fitted last October and there's been no problems.

Bob is the main man on security and is a main dealer for Clifford and TOAD. I asked him for his advice and he recommended TOAD for my needs.

I think the reason was that overall TOAD gives greater reliability but with a few less gadgets. If you want an alarm that will speak to some bloke who has glanced at your car from 50 feet away and ask him politely to move away (by name) then Clifford is it. But you pay for it.

Give him a shout (contact details are in Contact info) and he'll advise you - he's the dogs.

Yeah, I've asked Bob and I've got prices and all that, but I just wanted to see what people thought of them.

Cheers

Ive got a Clifford 50X. I am not sure that the proximity thing works right. I found a potentiometer to adjust sensitivity but I am not sure if its the right thing. Never yet heard the warning tone that the lurker is supposed to get. This one dont talk!

Also when I had a flat battery it forgot the remote. Made it a real bitch to get the car going again as the valet code didnt work either. Discovered a new code by trial and error after disconnecting the siren which blared for ages cos its got its own battery.

Then re-registered the remote again. I am sure that the damn thing should save settings in nvram when the battery goes flat.

the 300 is a very good alarm and does have a lot of features with the ability for expansion....the proximity sensor is over zealous on a 300 but i think a lot of this is due to the all glass roof on a 300....what you do get with the concept series though is piece of mind that your alarm will not lock you out of your car while filling up with petrol as the 300 uses the blackjack anti-hijack system rather than auto locking your car as protection...i think its still the only one to offer insurance with it as well as having a lifetime warrenty

i know im probably being paranoid here but you might not want to tell the whole world what alarms each of you have on your cars here either because i know plenty of people that would take very kindly to knowing what alarms you have on

I've got a Moss alarm from Halfords. It was fitted by my sister.

But then my car is probably worth less than the speaker cable in your motor Tooley !

My friend ay3388 had a clifford on, and even though they are good, he had loads of false alarms. Not the most stable of the lot.

I have a CAT 1 Meta. Its is good and stable but I am a little disapointed about the lack of extras on it, ie, proximity alarm and pager. You will have to buy 3rd parts ones.

Had a Clifford 300 on my old FTO.

I was storing it on my nan's drive for a few weeks when I got a phone call at work, the siren wouldn't stop going off!

Got to her house about 1/2 hour later to be greeted by loads of her neighbours trying to get the thing to shut up. Seems that the car battery had gone flat & the alarm had gone nuts, had to take the battery off to stop it.

Just lucky I didn't have a bonnet lock fitted to the alarm, would have been going for days...

I have a cat 1 Toad, and can highly recommend it wink.gif.

I have a Serpi Star. Never heard of it ? No, me neither until it was recommended to me. I believe it's Italian, which disproves the theory that Italians couldn't even wire a toaster. (Nothing against Italians, but I have first hand experience of Italian electrics on Fiats, Alfas and Ducatis!)

one of the things I really want is a turbo timer function on it, so I can just lock the car and leave it. Does the toad have that?

Yeah, I have the Toad Ai606 and it's excellent, v.cheap too, think it was about £310 fitted.

You were robbed!!

Toad Cat1 £265.00 fitted for all members.

Bob

Shit Bob,

I paid £225 to have my CAT 2 Meta emmobiliser that was already on the car upgraded to a CAT1 Alarm and emmobiliser. I was reading about the TOAD Ai606 and I wanted one but it said it was live £350 on the site.

Even tough my one is good it doesnt have the extra options that I wanted

DOH!

My Auto electrician mate who fits car alarms etc says that the toad is a very good alarm, but there is just as good an alarm with cat 1 spec for a lot less money, and reliable as well He recons with all the mags like max power etc plugging them everybody naturally think they are the best.

and hes not plugging any alarms cos after hes fitted them the ones that don't have him coming back to faults must be very good.

just my 2 pennys worth

The reason i like Toad is simple, they are reliable. At the end of the day that`s the most important thing. To be rated at cat1 alarms go through a series of tests so all meet a min. stamdard. The alarm takes about 3 hrs to fit so i would be interested in makes that can be fitted for less than £265.00

I've had 2 Concept 300 Alarms on my cars, the one on my 200 was ok, the current one on my 300 is very prone to false alarms, just can't find out why.

OK te laarm front from my experience:-

Cliffords are full of features, but create lots of aggro. Locked me mate out of his Cossie with the engine running!!!

Toad - simple, reliable and features can be added.

SIGMA - so far so good, no problems enough features, and no false alarms to date.

Scorpion:- Not good, car still got stolen. Had many false alarms, and ultrasonics couldnt never be set properly, either to sensitive or off.

Hey Bob,

While your here, don't forget your seeing me as soon as you can in the New Year wink.gif.

Remember my wiring prob, also might possibly need a another alarm.

Cheers m8,

G.
