saw these at JAE on sunday. they were £60.00 for the zed, and are supposed to add 5 octane to regular 95 petrol. did anyone get or ever tried these?

not sure if they are just a gimmick

nice to meet some of you this weekend, and also see your motors.......got plenty of ideas for my zed now! :D

(was also amusing seeing vinni attempting to unlock his car after the large amounts of alcohol he had obviously consumed   )

I picked up one of the octane boosters to go on my Skyline (show car) will have it on by the end of the week, will let you know if it makes a difference, if it does I will most prob stock them !!!

how are you gonna know if it has increased the octane??

the only real way is to find out a what boost/load/timing conditions it dets at before using the booster, fit it, then simulate the exact same boost/load/timing to see if the dets gone! even then you wont know by how many points its gone up by!!

not that im sceptical or anything!

How can it raise the octane if it doesn't add anything to the fuel ?

i have no time for these kind of things and regard them as gimmicks. the fuel cat came out a while back as a substitute for leaded fuel and i think they were regarded as useless then. unless it dissolves into the fuel, i cant see how its going to work? the fuel cats were like a mesh filled with lead? balls. if they did work, why dont they fit them to fuel pump nozels at the petrol station and we could all have high octane fuel for F all!

Do a search on here for them, think Gio has posted a load of links before that said basically that they are 'unproven' (being polite)....

Stick to Optimax!

because lowlife would end up taking out the lead and weighing it in :headvswal but not in merseyside i must add

It does though doesn't it? I thought the claimwas that the crystals of whatever is in there slowly dissolve over lots of miles.

Is there any way of testing octnae rating? Like dipping some fancy litmous type paper in or anything? Although I guess if there was they would tell you the results...

send it to trading standards asking for an octane check or any private laboratory

or send to me i will just mix it with lemonade and drink it ..if i go blind for an hour its 95 if i dont its 92 ...simple :))))

Yeah, well if those 'crystals' are petrochemical based then I may start to believe it. Even if it was proper snakeoil I might even be slightly less sceptical ;). However, if there was a cheap or easy way of raising the octane then the oil companies would have done it after they removed the lead.
