Given the choise where would you chose to immigrate? Just currious as i've just done it.

Moving to Canada is the best thing I've ever done, be happy here for a few a years here and then maybee Australia? I do love the UK although lots of things about it frustrate me nowadays!! I will come back to live there one day!

It's funny this thread popped up, as My Wife and I really want to do this, sell the house and the assets etc. and move to Canada.

How the hell do you go about it though? No kids just me and the wife?

I'll show this to her in the morning, everybody I know who's moved to Canada says it's the best thing they ever did!

I'd like to explore the USA and Canada a bit.

I've pretty much seen most of Canada now and I have to say it's the most beautiful country I've been to. Especially British Columbia and the rocky mountains. Unbelievable roads!

Havent seen so much of the states but once my Z gets out here i'm going to drive the whole west coast of the USA right down to south America. something I've always wanted to do. Lots of oppertunities for surfing there!

Members should ship there Z's out, make it a club trip! (if it breaks down parts are almost free out here!)

yep, I spent a couple of months in vancouver and the scenery is spectacular. And the Women.HOLY MOLY! And the strip joints don't have silly pole dancers. They've got playboy models putting everything on show for you.

And people are very laid back. suited me fine :duffer:

Firstly canada is not that easy to get into, not like the UK where anyone can turn up an inflatable! :x:

If you are skilled worker and have an experience in your profession then you stand a good chance of claiming immigrant status. Basically you have to pass a test which you can do at the official canadian website http://www.cic.gc.ca lots of good information there.

If you have enough points without having a job offer in Canada then your laughing. You can use a lawyer to submit your application (they will rob you of at least 4 grand for doing the paperwork) or do it your self for free!! I am. you will still have to pay the settling fees of about a grand.

The application process time is about 12-18 months at the moment. you have to have at least 10 grand in the bank to support yourself whilst looking for work when you land in canada. Most people have sold their houses at this stage so shouldn't be a problem. This is the longest way and probably the safest way of doing it.

The quickest way and the way most people do it including myself, is to find a job first and just work in Canada on a tempory work permit which will last for up to 3 years. They can be issued in 3-4 weeks, usually only issued for 1 year though depending on the job. you have to find an employer before you get the permit.

Once you are working in Canada you can apply for immigrant status which is far faster because you are in the country paying taxes etc and process times are reduced to 6 months. The risk with this option is that if you get denied landed immigrant status you have to back to england.( if your paying a lawyer lots of wedge then it should work out. Lawyers work on a no win no fee charge, so will only take you on if they think you will be accepted)

Once you have been in canada for three years as a landed immigrant you can then become a full citizen and have a Canadian passport.

This only just touches some of the information required. Hope this helps.

have to agree with you there on all counts. Cant wait to get back to Vancouver

Have been to Vancouver quite a few times myself - love it. Also Montreal which is kind of like the US but with a hint of culture.

I am from Australia in Queensland Gold Coast but over here living in London for a while with the g/f who wanted to live here...I came on the condition I could buy a Zed!!

I like it here but I think Australia and New Zealand are the best places to live..I have lived in both and its just more relaxed( well when you get out of the cities!!)and the water is warm in summer and the surfing and beaches are amazing..Car scene is good too. UK is ok but a bit too busy for me ..im looking forward to going home sometime next year..the Zed gets me by though!! Japan is amazing as well!

thanks mate, been reading through that this morning, and will continue on today, I just miss out on the skilled worker point score, but that site gives a ton of helpful info! thanks again :)

hi Pete

Before I rattle off too much information are you thinking of bringing a family or doing by yourself?

Andy

Would be the family. Wife and our son.

That point system is for the Federal addmision. You may qualify for a provincial nomminie program depending upon your profession. The information will be on that website. Great thing about that system is that in some provinces you need less points to Immigrate.

As I've mentioned in one of the above posts you need to attain a given amount of points based on your skills. Because you have familly out there that will help. They may not directly be able to sponsor you but it will give you more point s towards your immigration.

I know of a few families that have immigrated to Canada and have always used a lawyer. simply because there is so much paper work to process with a family. You could attempt it yourself but the information is full of legalities and can be very confusing. I have a friend in the process at the moment who is using a Toronto based lawyer. He is very happy with the service. I'll drop him an e mail and find out his name.

  • 2 weeks later...

Vegas baby!! Been there twice, can't wait to get back there, and might not come back next time :D.

My dad lives in Florida, and my wife's dad has just moved to Kansas and they both wished they'd done it years ago.

Just gotta convince Mrs Peach then, Sin City - here we come!!

Vivaaaaaaa Las Vegas!

But I love England. But to move somewhere you have to have spent time there, and the only places i have spent time I wouldnt want to move too
