Hi all,

Just in the last few weeks or so my zed has developed a metallic whirring/rotary noise. Car runs as usual in all gears (AUTO Jap TT). If I leave the car in the "P" position i can hear it the most, then when I stick it in "D" it stops for a few seconds then comes back. Also the car seems to run the same and I have no obvious lack of power, Turbo gauge is as usual and only white steam on start up (as normal). Sounds like it is coming from the middle part at the back of the engine.

Have been told it could be the oil pump.

Could it be my auto box or a turbo is on the way out. Or could it be the prop shaft.

If anybody couldshed some light I would be most grateful.

Cheers :headvswal

I've got exactly the same problem. (Manual 'box)

My engines just been rebuilt so it better not be anything serious

Thanks guys, am hoping it is just one of the pumps. I take it that it is only the auto's that have torque converters, not an expert so not sure.

look at the colour of the auto trans fluid. If its dirty and smelly your box is about to expire. If it is that then dont go too far from home with it as the drive can go completely and while you can get it going again for a few minutes at a time by waiting and re starting it is difficult to go more than a few miles.

When I bought the car in September 04 the fella said he had just changed the auto fluid, checked it and it was a pink clean colour, havent done a load of miles and it is still pink in colour, topped it up yesterday, Thursday and took it for a spin, still the same noise. No visible leaks, could it be the prop at the front.

Also where abouts is the oil pump, is it near the water pumps etc?

Car doesnt seem to have lost performance and changes seem to be the same as before. HELP!

oil pump is situated below water pump behind crank sprocket

prop bearing failure wear is normally accompanied by a vibration at certain speeds, you need to take it to someone who knows what there listening for,as i said could well be bottom end bearing wear but who knows without hearing it

Cheers bud
