I used to work for Peugot.. "DONT EVER BUY A FRENCH CAR" !!!!!!

precisely, you will regret it otherwise, there shit

My Parents neighbours had one. My mum always thought it was some Chav'ed up girls car, and those that did know what it was would say "and at the end of the day, its still a Clio."

Seem to remember the press were all excited about it, and then were pretty dissapointed with it when they finally got to test drive it. Got pretty bad reviews about its handling on the limit, and performance was'nt what it could of been.

the early models were not good, but the later ones fixed the handling and upped the power, probably would beat a standard 15 year old zed :S

only thing that disapointed me was the exhaust note, quieter than a stock zed from an NA :S, that can be changed with a new system though. I may be moving into the needing something for a bit more miles teratory very soon and its something a bit different or a diesel lol. Maybe I will get a diesel ford transit so i can sell my dodgy produce out the back :)

French W****ers caused the dealership I worked for to go bust. You wana heard the sh**e you got trying to get paid for warranty work 405 TD's engines would explode due to a design fault in the fuel pump "If you sold the car you had to fix it parts only supplied" given three hours to fit a motor which wasn't bad until it turned up (a short block) e.g no head and no gaskets "Headset for the car at the time was £300". Peugot 605 3ltr V6 car cost around £25,000 ish when new, after 3 months nothing worked car got a full wiring harness under warranty yes a FULL!!! harness .. You got 8 hours to do it. Took you that to do the engine bay. Rant Over ...

Apparently the 172 is much better value for money, (although doesn't look anywhere near as good!), only 1 second slower to 60 but £15k cheaper!

After having a Saxo as a demo/show car, I would never personally own a French car, build quality is crap and the bodywork is so thin you only need to look at it to dent it!

Surely zed is bound to be a nicer long distance drive than a mid engined hothatch !?

and just checking mpg rating on a review it says "drive one with verve everywhere and you may get around 18 mpg. Restraint will see 23 or so"

.... no better than the zed on fuel either ?

and it has tiny luggage space too.

Mike, although it has a V6, thats a proper birds car!

anyone owned any renaults lol?

Yeah, i had a 19 16v VERY BRIEFLY. it was a shit box! :hurl: lol

anyone owned any renaults lol?

i had a kangoo van it was crying out for a v6 :p

Bloody French...I never buy anything French if I can help it...they killed our princess and lasted longer in the World Cup than they did in the war...but still find time to insult us???? W*****s...

Mike if you like it then buy it mate simple as!

However IMHO its fookin horrid! LOL

bolt on a couple of t28's and a progressive nitrous system and then, and only then !!!would i consider one ...............

I drove a Mk1 V6 Clio about 5 years ago, it was complete crap IMHO!

I know the Mk2's are better but the quickest ive seen one at Santa pod was about 15 secs, Hmmmmmm, real fast, a certain member in his NA Z is as fast!

Oh and its french, so it will smell of onions and fall apart in 2 weeks :)

Yep, had two R19 16v's one was a rocketship with fantastic handling and the other just didn't quite hang together right - never did like that one. A mate of mine also had one and it was a beaut. The missus also had a 1.8i Clio and then a 2.0i Megane, both were pretty good cars and went well.

I had a normal Clio at one point (1.6 8v RXE). Would never buy another French car. It was basically OK for 70,000 miles, and then it all started to go pear-shaped in a big way. £2000 spent in one year. No thanks, not again.

I had a 16 valve clio on an N plate bought it when it was a year old and what a great car it was til I crashed it!!!!!!!! Bought the wife a brand new clio last march only a 1.2 but again a great little car absolutly no problems with it as yet!!!

Rich (a renault fan)

They're generally OK for the first 3 - 4 years (and they are nice cars to drive, they're comfortable, stylish etc)... but if you get near 70,000 miles get rid of it.

I haven't read the replies on this, just read your first post........ I have heard they are all show and no go? They do have a good road presence though, but IIRC their performance doesn't live up to its looks.

Dont think theres a problem of me having it for too long she is already talking of wanting one with more power!!!!!! Probably trade in next year, sure I read somewhere about a new clio coming out? might be wrong though.

From the things I have heard about the car, they are under powered and handle like poop.
