Isn't that 'normal' for a family. I wouldn't know because I don't have much family so I don't get to do that sort of big gathering thing.

 

On a similar track, a friend of mine used to have a small plaque on her front door, which read "Friends always welcome, family by appointment" !

That sounds familiar. Went to a family do recently for an elderly aunt who'd come over from Canada. Was OK for a couple of hours, then another elderly relative cranked up with, "I'll never be able to forgive {name} for not....", and off they go. And they're all wittering away about how terrible {name} was, and then my dad joins in, and it just turns into gutless malice-fest 2005. Got a family barbecue in a couple of weeks, and I'm already dreading it. :-S
