Hi,

Had an unusual thing happened a couple of times, just wondered if anyone had any ideas. When accelerating fairly hard the car got to about 5500 revs ish and then some kind of limiting came on, a bit like the rev limiter when you go to high. The car jerked when this happened and the boost seemed to drop off, then everything was fine again. I am running an e-01 boost controller and afc ,maybe these are kicking in with some kind of safety mechanism? Its only happened twice and the car was fine for the rest of the long drives. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas? I've got an hks induction that isnt really protected from the rain but it wasn't raining on one of those occasions.

Cheers for any ideas Dave.

safety boost?

sounds like safty boost also i think the vts solonoids retard the valve timing around 5500 could be worth checking those out

safety boost?
No ;)

power cutting out at around 5500 sounds like hesitation either a setting on your boost controller, maybe the eo1 has a rev limiter setting!

what fuel are you using?TBH safety boost would make the car feel slugish throughout the rev range, rather than what you have

if it is hesitation then heres a link for tips on curring hesitation http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/hesitation/hesitation.html

Not safety boost, running a little under a bar, the car hit about 5.5k at full boost and jerked like it does at rev limit and lost boost pressure due to this . But a second later was back to its perfect running self, with full boost on acceleration etc. Its only happened twice but I'd like to know what it is. Other than that the car is sweet as a nut. Will try some diagnostics if it ever starts doing it again. Don't think anything will show up normally (vts for instance) though as its only happened twice. Maybe its just a dodgey connection. Just thinking, doesnt the e-01 record the runs on memory stick or something? gonna have to read the destructions!

Cheers for any suggestions.

The e-01 is limiting the rpm,i had it set up this way,its actualy around 6,000rpm,as i saw no need to go over this, one it protects engine of course from being razzed, two it will save embarrassment of fookin the motor on a missed gear change at WOT,(this has been done by others on here),three, its fast enough and by 6000rpm you have long since gone over making anymore bhp from motor. :) Looks nice in your latest pics, nice to know its being looked after as i did.

ps,will be at JAE ;)

Cheers tony, didn't want to keep phoning you and asking questions! Is this just on certain gears or something as it has only done it a few times and reguarly give it some welly (just in the interest of research, obviously!). Must admit I didn't realise I should have been changing gear before this, it pulls so hard all the way through the range.

I wasn't planning on JAE as I'm going to castle combe on the 15th (jtuner, newera etc are there too so hoping for some phots). But JAE is so big and popular that maybe I should just for a weekend out. Maybe I'll go and check with the long haired boss, see if she fancies it.

Thanks again tony, Dave

ps My mates developing some photos at the moment, if they are good I'll post them.

edit pps - just noticed the car used to be leather (autotrader advert in history). Did you put the new seats in?
