im going to change the oil in my zed, i have been told by a few people to use an engine flush and let it tick over for 15 mins then drop the oil then refill with castrol 10/60.

 

is this ok to do, i have read some of the conflicting posts here about which is the best way..

 

i want to do this tomorrow so please can someone just give me a definitive answer to this without causing an argument.. lol

 

engine flush or flush with a cheap oil (what oil?)

Flushed mine out twice, no probs at all. Used flushing oil too.

Have since read (as above), that a cheap oil is a viable alternative

to flushing oil, or some of the same oil as you are refilling with, this

can be expensive though!

I'm just about to do the same. Am flushing with the same oil I'm refilling with, but this is a bit expensive. However, it is the advice given by Oilman, and since he knows his oil I'm going to stick with that (yes, yes, I know he's got an interest in selling the stuff ;-) ).

 

Seriously though, there *could* *possibly* be an issue with the new oil reacting with either (i) the engine flush, or (ii) the cheap oil you used to flush the engine, which could cause sedimentation or decrease the new oil's lubricant properties across its operating temperature range. That said, I'm no expert so you'd probably be better off asking somebody who is.

My problem is getting the darned trolley jack under the car (lots of other people seem to have had a few issues with this too). Nothing's simple with these cars (and I've hardly even begun fiddling with the thing).

Na don't be using flusher to hard on the seals espeically on an older car where the gunk is actually helping to keep the seals sealed,if your with me!! :smash:

All the above plus, if your car is a tt, flushing with anything besides oil could shorten the life of your turbo.

dont use any additives :rolleyes: flushing or the like more harm than good,heard a phone call today after someone flushed there engine with additives in there z,that the car runs like a bag of nails so stay away

How you mean flushing without additives?

Am I right in thinking use a thin oil (0/40) then go for a welly up the motway and back down, say 100 in 4th (manual gearbox) get it nice and hot then drop the 0/40's then refil with your normal running oil??

1: drop the oil but leave the old filter on there

 

2: fill with a cheap oil (what grade please) then drive for 15 mins or let tick over for 15 mins

 

3: drop oil again and change filter, remembering to put a smear of oil around the new filter seal. also to pre fill the filter with the new oil.

 

4: then fill with castrol RS 10W/60

 

5: please tell me i got it right!

5w/40 is fine IIRC

i have read all the posts on this subject that are here but i needed to clarify things for myself as this is something i want to do and not have to take it to a garage to do.

 

i just want to do it right first time and the only way to make sure is to ask. :nelson:
