as above really need to test to see if me kenlow fan is working, dont want to make car overheat to find out its not, have spun the fan with hand , its fairly stiff but moves, , reason im asking is its out of car as cleaned loads of leaves from behind it,

Yep!-but car has to be running/ignition on! and of course the fan needs to be connected. :)

Yes of course.

 

If you unplug it (or inplug it as I say) the car presumes that the sensor is not working and to be on the safe side puts the fan on all the time.
