The little things that dampen the fun in having a zed..

came home yesterday turn off ignition went into house my girl friend

call me and said i left my lights on ' turn out all my backlights were on .

well i figured it was the break switch probably stuck . no matter

what i do rear lights wont go out . i know the wires that comes from

the break pedal had a problem once and ckeck them by pressing pedal

and observe 12v .now when i press brakes i dont see that 12v

yet all my rear lights are on . had to pull plug from light controller

a black box in the rear that seem to feed voltage to lights to get them out.

any help appreciated . i have to drive tomorrow without break lights

not kool  .........

Sounds like a bit of a funny one!

Is it definitely the brake lights, or could it be the side lights? And you don't mention your head or side lamps- I presume they work ok?

I'm struggling to think of ways it could fail in this way. The stop-and-tail-lamp sensor is only fed from 2 sources- the brake lamp switch and the light switch. Normally the brake switch also feed various other systems (ABS, HICAS, power steering, and cruise control), so I guess it's possible that if one of those systems failed it might back-drive the brake light circuit, but I'd say that's VERY unlikely! Are you getting any other warning lamps?

I'm not trying to cast doubt on your abilities :) but are you measuring the voltage correctly?

It's a pain, but I think you'll just have to work your way back from the stop-and-tail-lamp sensor with a multimeter until you find where the feed is coming from.

Not sure if I've been much help there... :(

Good luck matey,

Mark

thanks , ill have to go back and trace voltages again ...

..there goes my weekend.. ill aslo recheck and make sure all other

lights working ...

Sure you haven't switched your fog lights on? I had an import before and they had installed the fogs in with the rear lights. One day I had a play with some 'weird' looking switch - 'I wonder what this is for...'. Couple of days later my neighbour says I've left my lights on. Couldn't figure it until I remembered I had played with that switch.

Maybe not, but hope it is something simple like that mate,

Good luck!

fog lights caught me out before as the friggin things just come on without the lights needing to be on.

lights ok now . turned out to be the switch on the brake pedal

some plastic gismo broke off leaving switch closed,,

friend of mine showed me a trick with a bolt and nut .

shouldnt have to worry about that again ,,,,, tks much...

theres a platic thingy that fits on through

a little hole and then down to the switch, when this goes theres

nothing to make switch no lights stay on. by putting a nut

i say approx 1/4 inch over the top of the switch and then put a bolt

though the hole and tightened into the nut it works same as

the plastic thingy just that ill never break again ..

a bit hard to explain but if you check your break pedal looking up

while pressing and releasing it youll see the switch,
