My air con isn't working (need it in this heat). I think it just needs regassing but not having any history on it I don't know whats been done to it. Is the replacement gas R134 a ? Is there any way to find out if it just needs regassing with some sort of diagnostic and anything else that might be wrong with it ? How much roughly would a air con check and regas cost ?

Cheers

Paul

hi mate Im the same the revs drop so the belt is kicking in it just dont do noubt.

is the 300zx aircon supposed to be really good when on?

I haven't actually figured out how to use the air-con! I put it down to 10 (which is the minimum I can do), but I can't hear a belt kicking in. Maybe mine's been removed!!

your revs will seriously drop mate

sit in your car and turn auto on and off the revs will go up and down like :xxx:

chris

revs should rise about 200rpm when aircon is engaged

also, if you car has been converted it will have a different refill nozzle, any competant refiller will be able to tell.

dick head me I meant rise when you put it on and seriously drop when off :xxx:

The aircon system in a zed can run at over 300psi. When its lost so much gas that only 30psi is left a pressure switch locks out the compressor so no more cools. Once its getting low anyway the system battles to chill. There are drop in replacements out there and mine was done over 3 years ago with one. Others will say you have to get a R134a conversion with new drier etc but I find the drop in works fine and still does. The R134a wont be as efficient as the drop in replacement but its probably more commonly available.

You can take a look in the sight glass nearby the battery when its running. If you see nothing at all then its prolly empty. Lots of bubbles is also bad. The pipe should get hot and a liquid should be visible flowing in it.

At the time I think it was called R416 and cost £85 to do outside my office - the guy took two hours cos he had never done a zed before and wanted to check all the pipes for leaks. He was also amazed at what a high pressure it ran at but I had printed off the aircon manual to show him so he was ok on that.

Since had him back for my other car a couple of weeks ago and he only charged about £65 for that one.

Nissan - not ones first choice for work on our Z's but they have said minimum cost to service aircon is £85 but were not prepared to give a price on full replacement! (Salisbury) and waiting for a West Midlands dealer to come back to me.

Can a dye test be done without regassing the air con system ? (£100 a time) also front passenger side is leaking green liquid. Is it coolant from the radiator ? Any help anyone ?

Just went for a regas last week. Condensor (air con radiator in front of the engine cooling radiator) had a hole in it - no gas. New condenser from Nissan to fit myself 330+VAT. Second hand one I got leaked. Now getting a factors one for 220+VAT. Hope yours ain't gone mate.

There's a bloke up here does drop-in replacement for R12 think it's called R42 or somit.. Does a nitrogen test before fitting cost me £40 inc recharge with new gas. Phone him 07745 021131 he's a good bloke will point you in the right direction.

When working, the a/c in the ZX is fekking excellent.

I have a v reg Rav-4 and w reg corsa both with a/c and the ZX deffo has the best of the three. In fact the a/c in the corsa was pretty crap Sunday in the 34 deg+ heat according to Julia (but then maybe women don't really know how to set it properly  ) whereas driving in the ZX at the same time I felt like I was sitting in a fridge

It took a few minutes to cool down though but the car was sitting in direct sunlight for 3 hours - I have thought it may need a regas by now but if it works like that I guess not.....

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

White-Zed lookup a company called "AUTOCOOL" they do it think there like a franchise so all over the country

Craig

cheers craig will take a look

It's a franchise so cash is the answer. Bloke quoted my £65 over the phone but did it for £40 cash.. "don't tell anyone" ...

Craig

P.s VAT will never catch on in Scotland :)

I've got a guy coming around this evening to regas mine, so I'll let you know how it goes.

he is going to charge £69 which is about half the price of some of the quotes I've had.
