Right! Insurance companies. Why is it that I have spent the last 4 hours on the phone to these *******s discussing the car and the fact its imported and the fact its got mods and the fact that I am 28 and where I live and what colour underwear I'm wearing. I then ring around another few companies before ringing them back to accept - only to find that when they do the "official" quote it is a grand (yes thats £1000) more expensive.

This has been done by Bell Direct (went up 500 quid), Firebond and Adrian Flux (went from 1400 to over 2300). ****ing outrageous!!

All this after our esteemed club insurer Houghton wrote to me last week to say they won't be able to renew because the insurer have changed their criteria for classic policy - it now has to be a second car and garaged.

Anyway the consequence of this is that I can no longer justify the cost of insuring the car so it is up for immediate sale. I will be posting details shortly - anyone interested in making me an offer on this unique car, please let me know as soon as poss.

Regards

Rich

Hi mate try Insurance Factory LTD on 08707778181 They were the cheapest company I found Im paying just under £850 Full comp. Thats with 5 years no claims, its my main car, 8000 mile limit, car is garaged, it a TT import and has a few mods, the next cheapest quote was around £980.

Lee

Try Norton Insurance (0121 246 5050) Got my '91 Import, slightly modded on a Classic Policy for £330.00 - 5000 miles/fully comp/breakdown cover and kept on the drive.

(I have 3 points and a recent claim but I'm an old git at 40 with full NCB)

I pay £650 with Admiral. 25 years old. 4yrs NCB. Driveway. Dont give up yet, its just about finding the right insurer.

buy a mini, insure it as your main car. the zed as your second

buy a mini, insure it as your main car. the zed as your second

agree, buy anything and insure it as ur main car, the combined total of insurance premiums will still be cheaper than havin the zed as the main car

im with the aa. im an option 200 member, i have been a uk driver for 4 years and have 4 years no claims. i am insured with n.i.g through the aa fully comprehensive with no excess for £437 on my jap import, only car, 2 seater twinny and mines parked on a driveway with gates.

Unfortunately our official club insurer, Houghton's are making matters a lot worse. I've been with them for two years and at the end of last year, on their advice, I bought a second car to use as my "main" vehicle whilst the Zed could go over to their "classic" policy. I cleared the car with them (a Nissan Sunny Estate...no sniggering at the back please :D) and they told me my policy (for both cars) would come down again on renewal (I was paying around £750 for both cars). However I received a letter the other week informing me that my new renewal quote for the Sunny alone would be...brace yourselves...£986!!! I rang them up, questioned it, and as touslecoq said they blamed it on Chaucer changing their terms and conditions...changes which they admitted they knew were going to be implemented when they advised me to purchase the car! To make matters worse I was also told by the lady on the helpdesk that Chaucer are "cracking down" on imports and that includes...yep, you guessed it...the 300ZX. I've contacted Mac about this as I thought he should know that a lot of people are about to get a VERY raw deal from Houghton's when their renewal date comes round.

i was with Admiral for years, both with the Z and two cars before. but as i wanted to start modding the Z, Admiral wouldn't let me. so THEY lost MY business.

AON have an every day Classic Policy I used to have my import GT4 on before I bought the UK zed I have, but I have a Beiruit Postcode (G78) and 3 points, car was standard, 5k miles a year , me being 36, working in the motor trade, all for about 500 quid.

I have the zed registered in my wife's name as a Classic with Houghtons now as I have a company van all for 175 quid a year now so I cancelled with AON.

I will look out the number if it helps.

Cheers John Crisp

Just renewed my policy 2 mins ago - £223 fully comp. Thank-you v much. With Norton.

Only concern was girl on phone didn't really know how to find the exact model of the car, so could well be under as a Z31. I will have to double check when documents come through.

Just got a new classic policy with Norton... 25 years old, kept on drive, full NCB, Fully comp, legal & breakdown - £450!!! (Paid over £700 third party in the past - as main car, so using my no-claims discount!)

And they don't increase cost for basic mods (exhaust & intake).

How about approaching Norton as the new official club insurer - surely the majority of us only need a second car policy?!?

Rich

there really are 2 types of members....and i dont mean TT/NA

....its split between those who use the zed as a daily drive/first car and those who have it as a second motor (classic policy etc)....

within thoses groups are those over 30 and those under....

it would seem that whilst a lot of owners here have classic policies with Houghtons but you now have to be over 30 in all cases...so under 30's are left with only 1 choice and that is the problem.....as more insurers are gearing their cover to insure them only under classic (second) car policies this makes the 1st car (daily driver) policies uncompetitive....so as less firms do them so you get more and more of the F off quotes...vicious circle...so i guess what they say is true you cant please all of the people all of the time....and houghtons isn't a 1 size fits all solution it is a niche for them with the resulting restrictions on who can be covered...

i reckon there would be beers all round for anyone who could find a broker or insurer who would do cover based on zed ownership alone regardless of 1st 2nd motor, import or age related issues

cheers

I went with LIFESURE. They gave me by far the best price and they offer unlimited claims on a lifetime protected NCB policy. I had a claim with them for my Toyota Surf after a blowout wrote the thing off and they paid out very quick.

I would recommend them to anyone.

Cheers for the responses guys.

I tried Norton but they wanted it in a garage (its in secure parking that cannot be seen from any public highways, but that wasn't good enough).

AON said I had to be 30 and I'm 28 :) - its hard to p1ssed off with being too young really!

A-Plan = £850, which is half of the nearest quote. Only thing is that they said that modded parts would be replaced with standard, which means I would stand to lose a bit if it was nicked, but thats the risk you take - I would never get back the money I spent on it anyway. Not sure how they'd replace wide arches with standard ones though :D

Cheers again,

Rich
