Q? for those with imports who have changed >>

the stereo headunit!

My antenna wire that connected into the original Bose headunit has a two pin type plug on the end with two wires running into it.

The new headunit I have takes the normal one

pin type plug.

I've yet to find out where the second wire from the stock two pin plug goes so it's not as straight forward as cutting the plug off and fitting a single pin one.

Any help??

Steve

Don't cut that cable!

It's a dual diversity aerial, one cable goes to the heated rear window to increase the reception.

My car "had" that feature, the Nissan aerial is so thin and brittle it's very very very difficult to solder onto a new plug once cut, which is why I've not had a radio for some time.

I would either get a new aerial lead to the back or a converter of some sort and see if the recpetion is good or not. If stereo shops can't get it i'd check out somewhere like www.maplin.co.uk for that sort of thing.

Aaahhh!!

Not another cable to run from front to back!

Where's it gonna fit??

I'll have a look in maplin today

Thanks Jez

Or just buy a converter made by Hirschman (I think that's how you spell it). They make a converter which retails for about £20 to do the job.

Good luck and DON'T CUT THE CABLE.

Paul

Too late!!

The cable is cut and a new single plug has been fitted.

I've not bothered to connect the rear screen aerial cable and will just use the electric one.

Not a big deal after all.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Well, your cable must be different to mine, I could not re-solder the cable. (or, of course, I can't solder for toffee!)

Does your radio work ok as I haven't managed to get mine to work yet?

Where is a good place to get the conversion connector?

just go out and buy the kenwood touch screen wide like mine as it comes with its own tv/arial lead already

Top notch gear you have there Tooley but I bet you had an Audioline 25 watt'er in your Vauxhall Cresta ;-)

and rumour has it your Horizon had a Pong tennis game fitted in the back..

I'm waiting for the Kenwood in dash MP3 player to arrive in this country, they are available in the US for around $400. You simply burn your MP3's onto a CD and play it in your car. Cool!

I bought a Halfords Nissan convertor for about £15 for my 1990 import. My Sony Minidisc player plugged straight in with no problems at all.

I will have my stereo powered up this weekend and will know if my radio reception is any good.

Are we all talking about the same plug here?

Steve

Any Branch of Sextons will order a converter cable in or just ignore the spare cable after cutting connect as normal.

My head unit reception is fine.

Voice control!!! ha ha ha, I must see that!

I must have another go at soldering my cable, maybe only mine is crap!!

Jez,

There is no soldering required. Just plug & play :-)

A quick update too for those hoping to walk into a shop and grab Aiwa's CDC-MP3 anytime soon, I just received this from Aiwa's customer services...

"Thank you for your email. In regard to your query, the CDC-MP3 currently has no release date for the United Kingdom Market as yet. However, due to a large amount of public interest we have received regarding this unit, we are hoping for a release sometime in 2001."

Way to commit, there, Aiwa... =)

well, if they don't hurry some other company will beat them to it.

Raz, that's not your car in High Wycombe with the flashy number plate is it?

"RAZS300"

Nope, not me. Wonder how much that plate'd go for, though... =)

Raz

The Kenwood in dash MP3 player is around $400 in the US and should be here early next year.

My friend just brought one back and it's really good.
