i took me zed out saturday and all was well till i noticed the boost gauge was sat at zero,i took a look under bonnet and i had left a pipe off near the m/clyinder , which connected to the balance bar,now having connected the pipe,the gauge worked but then on return to home the engine started to smoke ( blizzard style ) only on tick over, i have just put on new recon turbo`s , p valve`s ,and serviced the motor, filter`s etc,when the engine tickover is ok no smoke but when the engine`s tickover get`s lumpy she start`s to smoke white stuff big time,i`m at a loss to know where or what is going on , is there a dodgy sensor/ valve, isa need some advice please

im just confused you sure its white thats normally condensation,

white=condensation

black=fuel

oil=blue

whats does the smoke smell like fuel,oil or what bit to brief on the description mate does it smoker more one side than the other

Put out the joint............. see if the smoke dies down.......... :D

do an ECU test check for any faults like o2 sensors etc etc if not give ryan a ring on 07968166640 [z-tech]very helpful and knowledeable

TBH without it being checked on consult or general checkover its hard to say,go for a good drive and see if the problem persists

i`m sure it was white smoke,i`ve had a few problem`s since i`ve had engine back in after refitting turbo`s,hense uneven tickover ,accassional black/blue smoke , i know it`s weird,first i noticed the engine hunting,tickover was ok no smoke at all,then i heard a click near the battery and the engine would run uneven,then a click then it was ok,i recleaned the igniter`s on d/s and i seem to sovle the uneven tick over,clicking / hunting stopped,i took car out saturday it went really well,i worked the engine hard for about 10 minutes and when i pulled over i left the engine tickover for 4 minutes,(turbo timer) but alas white smoke bellowed out,the blue /black smoke comes and goe`s i was hoping it was because of new turbo`s etc

Shouldnt smoke if you just got new turbos put on,i not long ago had mine reconditioned and no smoke at all.

have you checked tps If not setup right can cause clicking relay type noise and uneven idle should be 0.44 0.55 can be tested by simply using a multi meter put black lead to earth on battery and pushing probe in to the red tps connection and ajust via the 2 8mm bolts

you alright Nick! sorted the smoking problem yet mate? cus it sounds to me like you`v got the same problem i have, loads an loads of white smoke! iv spoken to jeff at Z- world (01827)259222 and he was certain it sounds like the pcv valve which is a 1 way vacum valve that vents the crank fumes back to the inlet and luckily for you (and me) is pretty dam cheap. check out `maximumautoparts.com` there about a fiver. peace out rude boy!

Stock gauge is absolutely useless. Do not rely on it at all.

White smoke would usually water burning in combustion, usually head gasket failure, however as sharky says white smoke can also be from "heated" oil which can indicate worn turbo seals or clogged PCV's

No that would be blue :xxx: :D

That's what I thought too mate,

BUT I have read on here that blue smoke is only emitted when oil is burned in the combustion chambers. If oil is burned in the exhaust (ie from turbo seals) it supposedly can cause white smoke :confused:

I'll leave that answer to the experts....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

you say temp gauge is bellow centre? this could be low on water and slightly overheating cause if there aint enough water goin through the temp sensor cant get an accurate reading. i should check your water and oil, if oil looks like mayonaise its head gasket gone, if oil looks ok, its a water leak elsewhere, the heater matrix is common on 300zx, check for damp in footwells. as it happens on idle it could be the electric fan as when your movin the engine is cooled by airflow but stationary the fan will kick in when it gets warm assuming its working

Nick has problem sorted now :D

lol im havin that same prob! ive rang ry! @ ztech, and he told me do a comp and leak test! all were well and its only started 2day! just had new zorst put on, and out of the blue! once been sittin for a few mins white'ish smoke, and just b4 the engine goes but unsettled. ie dies abit then picks up.. few moments later !! piff poff puff!! out comes the smoke! and it does it mainly on the drivers side! b4 this the car was fine!!

any ideas?

Nick has checked connectors and pipes against my car and they are on as far as we can see. I have hooked up my Datascan software to ECU and can't connect!! Works fine on my car. Tried His ECU in my car and it works fine but does not connect to Datascan, strange. Next thing is compression test.
