Speedo Conversion

After converting the speedo from KPH to MPH, does this affect the mileometer?

 

I've seen a few Zeds on ebay that say things like this...

 

"I have had the Zed since January 04, when the recorded kilometres were 106000 (equals about 66000 miles). At that time it was derestricted and the speedo converted to miles. I have done about 9500 miles since, todays reading is about 115500"

 

can anyone help?
