yep im the unluckiest zed owner here,

 

stopped in halfords to buy some of that stop smoke additive you add to the

oil, did as it said on the bottle took it for a short drive and hey presto

no smoke but no oil pressure either ffs :wack:

 

stopped zed to check oil and was fine started again and very low oil pressure but a huge knocking sound like a clapped out diesel, big ends!!!!

 

this stop smoke was quite thick to go in and im sure this is the cause of my low oil pressure

 

i called the firm up that do the oil additive and fair play they are going to have a look at the cause of the trouble and if its there fault they will rectify it

but getting the garage to prove that is going to be a bit of a challange,

any tips for me then fellas!!

Why try and mask a problem with gunk? fix the issue thats causing the smoke!

thats not too dandy is it ... have to agree with Nick .. don't want to be adding that kinda shit to these engines.

 

I do hope you get it sorted though mate .... The only thing that springs to my mind. not being mechanically minded and all, is a flush and refilling again ...

Mind you that stuff is well sticky and might well prove difficult to get out mate. It was ok to use in the old days in cortinas and the like but PHEWW! a complicated engine like the ZX is a no no. But you already know that by now. SOZ.

you could do worse so I would follow Chris' advice and first try and get the sh1t out bud.

what is mate is the oil ways are so narrow they cant take it

 

the best example is the Rover 827 with the honda engine itll go on forever if its oils changed but its oil ways are so narrow to go neglecting it hence the tappet noise

 

same goes with that rad weld crap.

Honestly, anything that claims to block up holes in pipes and stop leaks is just a bad idea - if it blocks up holes in pipes, what do people think it will do to the holes that said liquid is meant to be flowing through?

 

Anyway.. if the knocking is a low, loud, banging that gets worse when the engine is loaded (test it by putting it in gear, with the brakes on, and gently lifting the clutch to the bite point - does the noise get much louder?) then it's probably killed your big end bearings..

 

Rebuild time..

He does have my sympathy though ... bummer ...

oh dear ,, this sounds scary, i put additives in me car too , now shes off road, getting big end bearings done and new tubbies but they smoked allready ,

i put it in because of tapping noise, tapping went now have clonking, low end, wont do that again!!! for sure

had to go home to change cars and burry my embarrasement somwhere LOL!!

 

oh yeah this also caused the car to overheat big time cause there was no oil running round the engine, just hope to god that the garage will say it is the additive fault and then they will have to pay to fix it might be a bit of a long shot though!!! :bow:

 

must say im not much into additives but i thought i would give it shot, should have stopped when i realised it took 1/2 hour for the additive to come out of the bottle it ws so thick!!

 

funny thing is when i start the car now i get no smoke!!

 

thats cos i got no oil running around probably,

 

so here is a big lesson learned i have taken one for the team :nelson:
