Hi guys, just joined up here :)

Looking at getting a 300zx as you can probably guess.

Been reading up on them but can't get a rough mileage on when the turbos are likely to fail from anyone.

Car i'm interested in has 60,500 miles and was imported in 2000, has a full history over here but from owning turbo'd cars in the past I know they can be flaky.

Cheers,

Daz.

I would imagine, from my 200sx knowledge, that it is entirely dependant on how well its been serviced, how much thrashing its had, what boost they've run at, and if they have been allowed to cool down before turning the engine off.

Hope its a lot more that 60k miles as mine has just reached this !!!

Dai

As said it depends if they ahve been abused, and then other factors can contrubute, oil changes, cooling, amount of use.

Generally 60k-80k miles, but well looked after ones have gone for over 100k miles

Damn that's quite a few have said 60kish since I've been asking around, that's a worry as 2 x turbo rebuild not cheap when it's an engine out job.

People will tell you the milage their's failed at. Find the highest milage, lowest milage failure and got for the middle (median) orfind as many people who have had their's fail, add them up and divide by the number people (mean) or find the most commen milage turbo failue (mode).

You'll get 3 different answers - which will you go by ??

My theory on the car i just bought - treat it well and i should be ok. Nothing else i can do, and worrying about it certaily wont help..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!

124000 on my uk tt manwell and as far as i know still standard tubs , havent been reconed or nothing. But you people must understand while writing this reply i am touching wood, have my fingers crossed and holding not just a rabbits foot but a whole ****ing leg lol

Mine are still going strong at 86,000 miles and have been running 1bar of boost for the last 3 years or so.

I'm going to see the car on Monday, it got imported in 2000 and has a full history over here since then and stacks full of reciepts for servicing etc, also just had a new clutch, water pump, thermostat, and discs/pads as well as the full 60k service.

Hope it goes as well as it looks.

Mine has 140K on originals and my other car has 122k on its original Garret T28 and I drove well over 100k of them sometimes pretty hard but looked after it cold and always serviced it. They can go on a long time if looked after and not over boosted.

Generally its twits who go full throttle on a cold engine who ruin them.

Are you watching the local 94 batmobile kitted one on ebay? Closes today and not reached reserve - looks nice if it wasnt for the humungus rear wing. That would be the first thing I take off it.

no point worrying about stupid stuff like that mate.

theres no point buying a car if your gonna worry all the time about what could happen.

if you turn up and it drives nice with none of the obvious take the bloody thing away :D

123,000 and still going strong. Standard boost and regular oil changes.

LOL

95K running 15-16 psi for last six months(had been 17+ :nono: )...previously was only 10psi before i got hold of it.

Reguler oil changes and turbo timer cooling is a must

De-catted and there still fine... :x:

But am expecting failure sometime soon...

16G's please ;)
