Hi to all, i've been wondering about importing stuff from the good old U S of A..compared to uk prices, as usual they seem to be much cheaper. I know about the problems of returning stuff , but generally is the process pretty pain free? What sites do youlot recommend. I've heard of courtesy and z motorsport. Are they ok to deal with? thanks to all who reply!! :hyper:

brembo discs front and rear, hawk pads front and rear and stillen ARBs i think thats all  As for postage its been divided between a few of us from this forum. Thats your best bet to get a few of you to all order parts and split the P/P.

Both Courtesy and Z1 are good and reputable companies. I deal with both of them on a regular basis and have not had a problem (yet)...

If you're after Stillen equipment let me know as I'm an official Stillen reseller in the UK and can get good prices on most of their gear.

For personal imports, count on adding approximately 24% of the TOTAl shipped value of the goods for import duty and VAT. I'm talking about the value of the goods plus shipping here. Some US suppliers may be willing to "mark down" the declared value of the parcel but beware, if something does go wrong you can only claim upto the declared value and hence you could lose out and be out of pocket.

As said by Danny BE AWARE of the hidden import duty costs. I bought a pair of euro rear bumper lights and by the time i had found out i couldnt use my credit card on e-bay with ProCarParts.com because it was european visa not U.S. so i had to pay by bidpay who charged me only to find out they hadnt added the shipping to the U.K. on the item only to U.S even though i e-mailed them as to where i was so i had to pay more and be charged again then only to find on top of import duty and V.A.T. that the courier wanted an additional fee. I ended up paying nearly £60 for what i could of bought from zedworld for £35 !!!! If you ever buy from ProCarParts BE WARNED they are also RUDE and IGNORANT on the phone. My rant over now i just wanna go and beat the snot out of a local yob. (medicinal purposes of course) :mac1:

I Have just bought shocks from cpz motorsport, they were very good, they even put price bought at less than $100 and put returning faulty parts on docs so i did not have to pay VAT OR DUTY.

EMAIL COZ CEH he does reply if you are worried

courtecy nissan are also ok but i had to pay vat

i've noticed on several things i have bought from the states an example is i bought some computer hardware/software which cost just over £300 bargain i thought then a bill arrived a month later from the courier for import duty, vat and handling charge another £95 on top to pay

Jesus it took a month to reach you???

I had a mate who got stung but they held the goods untill he paid the duties so he knew straight away.

Coz @ CZP is a top bloke just ordered me turbs, clutch, flywheel and gasket set from him and got soem interior bits previosuly....hes does the best he can to cut the prices and import tax down...well recommended ;)

That's all well and good when it works and the sender thinks he is doing you a favour, which in the short term he is. However IF it goes missing and lets face it, theres more chance from over the pond than there is from one part of UK to another, downside is you cannot claim for missing parts value above that as put on the customs docket, which the other side have in their posession plus ONLY the sender can claim which is a right ball ache.

I've had 2 parcels last year go awol and yes both have tracking on them too, fortunately the parcels are not devalued, so eventually all monies are refunded, but trust me, from experience, it's a gamble and loads of grief if you lose the parts, cos in the case of devalued goods, you also lose yer money :( sometimes paying that extra few quid to someone you know locally, can be worth it's weight in gold :D

cheers
