I have a pair of Goodyear Eagle F1 275/35/19 for my new wheels and they are just resting against some Yokohama's 265/35/18...... and the Yoko's are about an inch wider - wtf?

Featured Replies

don't the first 3 digits relate to the width? i.e if you've got 265's and 275's then ones gonna be wider than the other?!?

LOL!! You got it! But my 275's are about an inch narrower than the 265's!!!!

aaah. gotcha. what actual width are they?? is it the angle of the side wall that makes them narrower?

No, its not the angle of the side wall..... The Goodyear is narrower, no doubt. Seems odd.

Are the 265's still on the wheels, if so, they will have a bit of expansion on them due to the pressure in, but i wouldnt of thought it would equate to an inch!!

measure them..find out if its the Goodyear thats narrower than 275 or the yoko's that are wider than 265..

Yoko's are your old used tyres ?..perhaps they expand from being underneath 1.5 tonnes for however long...whereas the Goodyears are yet to go on the car ?

Both tyres are off the wheels. Goodyear's are brand new, Yoko's are used. Just measured them, Goodyear's seem about 265ish, Yoko's seem more like 275! Maybe they do compress outwards a bit when used, who knows?

Hmmm ... a bit weird that one, mate .. since the 265/275 part is supposed to be the width in mm, AFAIK.

Then the second figure (275/30) is the aspect ratio, so 30% of 275 in height, I think...

Therefore, the number should be a like for like comparison... weird. :D

You been at the beer in the morning again, James??? :duffer:

CheerZ,

JB.

He he, no beer mate. You're right on the 2nd number being the % profile of the width. The 1st number being the width, so no difference no matter what diameter tyre.

To put it simply, both tyres lying flat on the deck - Yoko stands taller about an inch.

You sold me reject size tyres John-boy???? LOL.

Chunk = Expert on measuring spare tyre sizes!!!!!
