We was driving around on saturday showing off the zed and saw a red escort behind us. We decided to play with it as you do haha. The road started to clear so we put our foot down expecting to see this escort disappear into the distance behind us but he was having none of it, he kept up!!!! We couldnt believe it so we pushed the car abit more and he still kept up!! Obviously we couldnt have this so the foot went down again and we finally got this escort off our ass

 

Now what the hell has he done to his car for it to keep up????

Wasn't a Mk1 was it? I raced a red MK1 at North weald and the guy ran in the 12's. It looked totally standard apart from the wider "plain" steel rims complete with chrome hubcaps.

 

The guy kept on lining up next to me to beat me, B***ard. I've got it on video as well, but I never show it, it makes me cry.

There are a few people that put the Cossie Sierra running gear into the Escort. There was one featured in a mag last year. Sounds like you came across one.

Could also have had the Escort Cossie set up? But I aint sure if its as quick????

I had the later in Sandy Beds do me in my MG ZT and he just played with me. Of course I wish I could meet him now......

It's probably just a healthy Escort 1.8 SI with a few mods.

There is ofcourse only one standard escort that would have any chance of keeping up, and thats the Cosworth.

 

But you never know what cars can be running when it comes to modifications. (engine transplants, turbochargers, superchargers).

 

Could of even been a very heavily modified RS Turbo.

yep it cost me thousands, it used to run 16 psi low boost and 22 psi high boost, it ran 229 bhp at the wheels on well lanes rolling road.

Many cossies are modified, but a stock cossie is NOT as fast as a stock 300zx. Check the 0-100 times, Cossie makes it in over 17 secs compared to 14.5 for a stock ZX.

 

Mid-range through the gears (on a straight road of course :D ) a stock ZX will stuff a stock cossie. 30-70 in the Cossie 6.5 compared to 5.3 in a ZX. I mean even the 3000GT can outgun a stock Cossie :o

mmmmmmmmm Northampton,red escort,think this is the one my mate(who did my Z)re-worked,looks very standard,but has around/more than 300bhp,will get the figures,he fitted the new type 2.3 Scorpio block with forged pistons/rods,special heads,and a Turbo(big one)work of art,somewhat mental motor to control,on there first run out the thing just kept wheel spinning every where.He built it over early part of winter,they were thinking of going for Nitrous,will see him next week,get the low down,has over 300lb/ft torque,think i have found pics and dyno printout,here we go ;)

i know that at least the sierra used to have Turbo Technics upgrades putting them up to 300bhp +. must have been a sleeper. it would take a modified escort cossie to match a Z :bow:

Ive never owned a cossie but am currently putting a cossie engine into a MK 1 Escort (see my sig picture). A mate recently got a sapphire 4X4 cossie and you know how cheap they are, its the first one ive been in and Ive gotta be honest it is something else. He spent £600 on a turbo, £500 on big ally rad and intercooler, £200 on injectors and had it mapped at PJ Motorsport. He ran a 12.6 in it just the other week and you all know how much money and work is involved in getting a Z to do that due to buying two of everything and taking the engine in and out. It hasnt got the top end of a Z but dont underestimate them by any means.

I once knew someone who built a Westfield and used the Cossie lump - amazing power to weight ratio :D
