Hi all,

Driving around town today and the temp gauge (aftermarket) was reading approx 93c prob ok as wasnt above 30mph at any point and the temp outside being 31c so no cool air flowing. Anyway got on to the dual carriage way and it wouldnt boost more than 5psi??/ Just got home and did an ECU check and this was 55 so all clear there. So I am guessing this was just due to it being so hot that it wasnt boosting properly??? Anyone else had this today or is there something I should be looking at?? It was boosting to 12psi yesterday and the temp gauge usually sits around 80c on a cooler day.

Another question is on hot days does anyone elses temp get to the 90's when its driving around town??

Sorry for the long one.

Cheers all,

Ant

The Zed doesn't like hot weather, then again it doesn't like much at all sometimes. Mine wasn't running to it's optimum today either ... It was bloody hot here though.

Thats what I was hoping, at one one point the temp for the outside was 35  but to lose 50% of boost is a bit drastic cause she dont like the hot weather what a tart these zeds are :slap:

I think due to the hot weather my revs went up to about 9000rpm might be the temp sensor any ideas.

I was only boosting around 5psi today, it's not just you mate :)

Just took it out and waheey back up to 12 psi, cant believe it loses 50% power cause of the heat!!

Oh well at least theres nothing wrong!

Cheers peeps,

93c sounds pretty hot coolant temp though. My normal running temp is 73-77, and I never seen it go past 79.

I wonder if the ECU restricted boost becuase of the Coolant temp reading ?

Zed's don't like hot weather.

cooling can be a major issue with these hot days and the first signs are overflowing coolant reservoirs and aux. fans that are switched on constantly.

I know it can be hard with this heat, but try to avoid using the aircon and keep a

good eye on the coolant level.

Also if you are running higher then stock boostlevels, try to avoid running at full boost or switch the boostcontroller off (if you have one)

The hot outside temperatures can cause detonation...even on completely stock cars.

If you are running a jspec chip or any other chip that was programmed for 100+ octane fuel you could experience light detonation (or pinging) in the higher gears.

If the det. sensor is working properly, the car will switch to safetyboost because of the detting and it'll feel like your handbrake is on all the time :)

To get the car out of safetyboost again, it's best to park the car and turn off the engine for 10 seconds and start it up again.

But most likely it will get into safetyboost again as soon as you get into one of the higher gears.

Mine's the same ant, they just hate this weather m8, and i have a stupid warning on the dash saying LIGHTS, but i cant find anything wrong?????

Will call u later ant .

I don't mean to come across all smug but I don't have this problem with my zed. In hot weather the boost can drop by 1 psi and increase by 1 psi in cold weather but nothing as drastic as has been mentioned. I use a Profec B spec II boost controller.

that's because a boost controller bypasses the safteyboost.

The ECU can be in safetyboost and you won't even know it...but the ECU switches to safetyboost for a reason and it's usually not such a good idea to ignore it.

There are simple ways to have a boostcontroller and also keep the safetyboost feature or you could have a warning light that shows if the ECU has switched to safetyboost.

Thanks for all your info Eric, great help

So is 93c ok around town on hot days like this or could I have a prob??

Thanks again.

Normally  my ZX behaves like this too.

On cold mornings the boost guage needle goes way over 10psi and in the 30 degrees on Friday it sat just on 9psi. That was on 95ron fuel too.

I have once or twice experienced safety boost (7psi on guage) in hot weather - happened once or twice last summer on hols after hard fast driving - but switching to Optimax for the next fill-up solved this.

I have an almost stock UK car - only mods are filter and exhaust.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

i just got back from Manchester - lovely drive - did it in about 1hr 40mins. Was boosting fine (15psi but normally it sometimes spikes at 16/17!) but it was a little sluggish off the mark due to the weather. journey cost about £35 altogether (Leic to Manch and back).
