Hi All.

Bit concerned at what can only be described as a 'hissing sound' when I put my foot on the gas.

Also.. I'm running a chip and 12psi boost jets, but when I give it some, my standard gauge only registers at around 6psi! Even on the orginal gauge surely 12psi should be pushing the needle off the clock?

Help!

Sounds like a boost leak, get yourself one of Vijays Boost leak detectors if you have'nt already placed an order.

but seriosuly get an aftermarket boost gauge ASAP, its crazy to run increased boost with stock gauge. Its VERY inaccurate and does'nt read in PSI or Bar.

You could also be getting boost spikes and would never know (goodbye engine and/or turbo's)

Do you have a link for the leak detector?

Also.. should I be worrying about spikes when I'm running a chip?

If my car is running 12psi, what would the stock gauge be doing? (I know it's not accurate)

Cheers!

The stock boost guage, if working correctly would be right to the right hand side.

Yes you should be rather worried about boost spike even with a chip. A friend of mine has boost jets fitted without a aftermarket gauge and the next day his engine blew ... no shit ...

I will try and find the link for the boost leak detectors for you ...

The Chip wont prevent spikes, it ensures the car is running the neccesary fuel maps for increased boost.

12psi would be of the scale on stock gauge (all the way to the right).

ok.. so.. What is a boost spike?

Sorry guys.. my only experience of forced induction is Supercharging I'm afraid.

How would an aftermarket gauge help?

it would tell you exactly what boost you are running in psi. You can then drive the car and see if you get any spikes, high boost. I know people love boost jets etc .. but I personally think a controller is better .. lol .... (putting on my flame resistant coat) ..

a spike IIRC is when the wastegates can't open fast enough and the tubbies are allowed to build up a little too much boost before the pressure is let off. i believe even some controllers can spike if you set the gain too high. but please please get an aftermarket gauge - even if it means velcro'ing it to the side of the console (like mine until i can afford an A-pillar pod)
