Have done lots of searching through old threads before i decided to ask for some help on this.

The new speakers i have put in are slightly too big to fit in the existing metal bracket (managed to get 2 screws in) and the speaker does not sit properly.

I have read that i should completely remove the metal speaker bracket from the door and make one out of mdf.

Do i make the mdf one the same shape as the metal one so it uses the same mounting holes? Sorry if its a stupid question, but the threads i searched through dont explain it very well. Does anyone have any pics of mdf brackets they have made?

Hi Rosco,

I put some lovely Alpine components in my front door which required the complete removal of the metal brackets. The new MDF brackets I made up were literally big enough to mount the speaker on and then mount the lot onto the door card. I'm sorry but I haven't got any pics of the install to show exactly what I mean. The process is fairly simple though, just make sure you've got enough clearance between the magnet and the window (in the down position).

So you have mounted the mdf on to the door card rather than on to the door?

Correct - that was the only way I could get enough clearance for the speakers. I've not experienced any adverse effects of mounting the speaker to the door card (like excess vibration, etc). If you mount it properly you shouldn't have any problems.

All the best,

How did you attach the mdf to the door card?

Did you stick it with strong glue?

I made a panel out of MDF to replace the metal one and fitted 6 by 9 JBL,s, clears the window and sounds good . :)

i have fitted some 6x9 in the door, i removed all the original metal supports in the door then made some MDF panels to match the door shape, coverd them in material and screwed them to the door card, they sound much better than the small original ones that were fitted.
