I went to replace my battey today and after putting it in, the engine won't turn over. The problem sounds as though the starter motor is just spinning and as I said the engine is just not turning over. I put in the old battery and jumped started it, but the same thing, just spinning up noise coming from the drivers side of the engine bay. Has anyone any ideas what it could be?

Cheers

Hi Vijay,

I reckon either the starter motor has got stuck...Try turning the starter on and off quite quickly 5 or 6 times, to see if that loosens it off.

Also, make sure you've got a good 12v across the terminals, perhaps one of the terminals isn't making good contact.

Cheers

sounds like the solenoid is stuck.....now heres the fun part what you need is a can of wd40 and if you can get to the top of the starter where the sol should be douse in wd40 leave for 20-30 mins and then if you can get to it again give it a few taps with a hammer this should free it up......or bump it for now if its not an auto and hope the heat frees it up

Hmmm bendix gear stuck maybe.

With the ign OFF, put the car in 3rd, relese h/brake & rock back & forth to free starter gears smile.gif

Then it should turnover, happy syarting smile.gif

what's the easiest way of getting to the starter motor?

Cheers for the help

Vijay,

The starter is dead easy to get too, provided you can jack it up easily. Its right on the bottom on the tranny, but slightly up the drivers side - you could have it off in 5 minutes flat (fnar fnar)! wink.gif

From memory, you only need to remove the hydraulic piston for the clutch first (2x12mm bolts i think)
