Has anyone had experience fitting these disks? I've just tried fitting mine and they are rubbing on the back plate (see piccy). After some head scratching it looks as though the disks have a smaller diameter opening on the back compared to the originals (see other piccy). Do I need to butcher the back plate with my pursuading device? :smash: or shall I have to use some small spacers on the wheel studs to push the disk out a bit?

The other though I'd had was that the disks haven't been machined correctly and that they should have been bored out at the back (but someone forgot). Any suggestions?

I have fitted these disks with no problems. Maybe you got a dodgy set?

Very strange ..

Nothing has been 'no problem' for me on this car

I don't know whether they are a dodgy set, they are allegedly the correct ones for my car (UK TT), the weird thing is the hole on the back of the disk. On the old ones the hole at the back has a larger radius than at the front, whereas the new ones have the same size of hole all the way through. I may give 3G a ring in the morning to find out.

Thanks anyway Chris

Sorry I couldn't be more help mate .. I just bought the disks and fitted them ... Not an expert with brakes TBH .. and I do agree the Zed is not a 'no problem' car LOL

by the way mine is a Jap spec.. can't see there being any difference with the back plate though.

I have had a pair of these fitted to the front of my UK car last week. A mechanic did them for me and he reported "no problem" with fitting them. Did you request the disk for a UK car? Don't know if there is a differance berween UK and Jap.

j spec and uk are the same fitment for brake components, perhaps they have sent you a set for a differant nissan perhaps,as they should slot on no probs

If it don't fit - just bash it till it does :smash: :smash: :smash:

I have fitted these too (a while ago now though) but I do seem to remember something rubbing on mine as well - not sure if the same place though. But just bent the back plate with a bar till it was ok.

Can't see there being a problem with bending that plate - unless anyone knows better??

Right, did a bit of measuring earlier on. The old discs had a 14.5cm hole on the front but a 16cm hole at the back (which means they clear the back plate). The new ones have 14.5cm front and back, which is why they are rubbing against the back plate.

I'm going to give 3G a call tomorrow for advice, unfortunatley though, I bought these disks of another forum member so I doubt there will be any recompense with 3G.

The other options are either to see if I can get someone to put them on a lathe and bore out the back of the disk to make it fit (I have a machine shop at work), or to modify the back plate to ensure it clears the disks as Darren suggests.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions guys.

Gareth

Modifying the back plate would be easier eh? In fact, what does that plate do anyway? Pull it off and chuck it in the bin :D

i did the same mod and in the instructions on mine it did say the dust guard may need to be modified / removed , i took mine off completely , it looks better without those rusty bits of bent tin anyway IMO ...brakes are great ,,did you go for the mintex pads ??

if you did my advice would be to dump them!! they squeel like a pig when they get hot ......fit porterfield pads instead and then go and outbrake porches :)))))

by the way it would be a good idea if you have the discs off to do a full service on the calipers while you can get at them ,.....and a coat of caliper paint wouldnt go wrong

Cheers for the advice Steve, I think I will try and 'adjust' the back plates or remove them, its gonna be the easiest option. As for the calipers I want to paint them red to finish them off.

I don't know what I'm going to do about pads yet, the existing ones have a fair bit of life in them. I'll put it back together for now but probably shop around for a good deal on some upgraded ones.

there was group buy on porterfield pads earlier i think it might have been chris at Greddy that had them in stock ..ive tried green stuff pads scary over hyped crap

mintex good pads but very "vocal" but the porterfield pads are great good feel in cold and in normal use ..cant recomend them highly enough ..its ok going fast but when you need to stop thats when the difference that 10 or 20 quid will pay for itself hundreds of times over

the backplate is for brake dust, but removing it may cause stones to flick up on to disc causing scratches etc,iv fitted them 3g discs on a few occasions and they have fitted fine
