has any one own one of each ?

and which did they prefer ?

i noticed on one of mac1 posted how he felt he had spolit his car by converting to manual ?

im sure this topic has been debated many times in these rooms but i was unable to find any helpfull info

the reason i ask is im looking at both at the moment and having always owned auto zx (and liked ) would like feedback from manual owners .

thanks in advance

I had my auto converted to manual and I much prefer it. And it wasn't a failing auto either, it was an SE fast road upgrade that was working fine after only 10-15,000 miles.

thanks for that andy

can i ask what you prefer ? control , speed , control of sound? etc ,etc

sorry to be a pain wanna make right choice m8

Had the fast road box (auto) and LOVED it, was forced to change to manual because of big power upgrade to engine and hate it pile of shite IMHO! :(

autoboxes just break, nissan did not make a good auto box for the 300,unless you get as mac says the SE fast road box then id stick to a manual, obviously in a TT sports car an auto is ideal when your in traffic, but for fun and hard driving then you need a manual z IMO

hi mate

had mine converted from auto to manual in jan 05, and to be honest i love it! i feel that you have that bit more control over the car.

and as mine is a jap import i thought it a good idea to get rid of the auto as alot seem to think they are rubbish. mine had just had a rebuild before i bought it, then 2k later it packed up again.

deffo prefer the manual!

gaz!

MAC, what did you hate about the manual box ??

was it dodgy fitment or did you just prefer the auto.

I have'nt owned an Auto 300zx, but I test drove 6 Auto's and 3 manuals, before I purchased my Manual TT, so have a pretty good idea of how the auto feels compared to the Manual.

I preferred the Manual gearbox compared to all of the Auto's, in felt a lot more of a drivers car. There was certainly nothing wrong with the Auto, but I do feel that a lot of it comes down to your own personal preference.

I owned an Automatic Performance Bmw for 4 years before I got the zed, so im not prejudiced against them, its just IMO a car like the 300zx suits a Manual gearbox.

Its a High performance Sports car (or a Supercar, depending on you perspective). You would'nt buy a Ferrari or TVR with an Automatic box.

Plus there are so many bad experiences reported with Autobox failures and they are not able to handle as much power as the manual box.

It also avoids having to defend it when everyone who gets in your car goes "oh..its an auto" ;)

All my IMO ofcourse ! ;)

First of all I have to add that I am not keen on auto boxes in general however the fast road conversion that I had was fantastic it was so smooth and had very fast gear changes.

My manual box (even though brand new) not recon has taken that away. I will let you know what the six speed is like when fitted :wack:

I have owned both. My last Zed was a Manual, now I have an Auto.

Like has already been said, one is not better than the other, it's personal preference and what you want from the Car.

I bought an Auto as I do a lot of Town driving, and it's my Daily Drive. There can be no doubt that a Manual gives you more satisfaction when you drive it well round the Twisties, and a the BOV's will sound the nuts on the gearchanges.

However, I think the Auto box is fantastic, you have lots of adjustment, ie. Power and Hold, 1,2 and D, Overdrive on or off etc. So you can switch it to how you feel like driving. It is much easier to drive, and let's you do other things with your left hand (handy for those long drives with the wife in the car lol). But seriously, out of the two that I have owned, I prefer an Auto. For me as it is right now that suits what I need the car for. Cruising around, not too fast as no-one can see you while you are tearing about lol Sounds on, T-Tops off, brilliant effortless Style. No crunching gears, slipping clutches, bogging down. Oh and that feeling of Kickdown with OD off on the A roads is something else

I prefer Auto.

Now later on down the line once I've got it looking exactly how I want it, then I'll go down the tuning route, and I will most likely end up getting a Conversion done. But that's the good thing, don't let the gearbox type dictate what you buy, as you can always have it converted later on down the line.

That's my honest answer :)

i had an auto and, through it breaking down, converted to a manual. TBH i always wanted the car to be manual - the autobox is good but vulnerable. for straight-line driving, an autobox with HKS line controller is GREAT! for country lanes and rallying a manual is much better. take your choice.

wow what fantasic replys , thats just the kind of info i was looking for and its great to hear both sides of ownership . Im leaning toward a auto as most of my driving is in town but ultimately it will come down to the car itself .

im based in leeds and looking for a tt 2+2 , pref silver.grey , leather , engine mods but no body kits if any one has one ?

thanks again every one

A ZX TT, auto or manwell is a great car to drive.

I drove several of each before buying mine and had no preference either way - it just happened that the one I bought was an auto.

Just by the best ZX you can.

Good luck

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
