Guys,

Just got the car back from having the centres and backboxes replaced with straight-thru system...even taken the boxes out the centres, but the cats are still in place. Just noticed on idle that there is a lot of white smoke coming out the passenger side but non on the drivers.

The pressure shouldnt have changed enough to knacker the turbo seals should it? These turbs are on 126k but didnt smoke before apart from the odd puff here and there.

It didnt do it earlier but just had to move the car and noticed it....what do you think??

Dan.

Sounds like the seals 2me mate, maybe with the new zorst its just more evident. You could try a thicker oil maybe ??

Cheers Martin

white smoke is condensation/water, blue smoke is oil, grey/black is running rich.

Well ive heard a lot that White smoke is related to the tub seals....you say its Condensation....does anyone else know?? I have no idea myself which is why im trying to find out ;)

IIRC worn tub seals would allow oil past which would result in blue smoke. Can you smell any oil in the smoke?

White smoke on idle, that sounds like the passenger side head gasket has started to go, i imagine that it will get slowly worse until it starts to smoke all the time. Hopefully its somehting else m8, but it could be worse!

Agreed! white smoke? are you sure its not steam?, hence head gasket etc

blue smoke is from unburt oil, i.e in exhaust from leaking seal getting hot after turbo and so on, grey smoke is burnt oil (before turbo)

There are a few things you can check to see if it is headgasket failier such as looking for a white mayonaise under the oil filler cap or excessive pressure in the coolant system when the engine is cold. The symptoms vary depending on how badly and where the headgasket has gone. Do a search and im sure you will find more information to confirm or eliminate it.

Its deffo the oil seals IMHO like i stated earlier in the thread, happend to me years ago on a GT4.

The cats burn the oil so it comes out white especialy on idle,

I have had oil seals go before on cars running cats but never had encountered white smoke. But then again i'm normally wrong, just ask my misses!
