I know political correctness has already gone mad but....

Could we be using an offensive term ... "Jap".

I mean it's not a million miles from a similar shortened term refering to Pakistanis which is considered offensive.

I think the Japanese (or Nipponese as I think they call themselves) would be to polite to object but I do wonder if we're being rude to people we don't even know.

You folk who's work involves trading with Japanese people.. what do you (or anyone else) think?

Or am I just being daft?

Well, I'm not saying I agree or disagree at this point, but is it any worse than saying Brit or Scot, which are both abbreviations?

and blackboards .. like what I had when I was at school .. now they are 'whiteboards' .. how strange .. lol ...

This has been asked before, what a load of b0ll0cks. I feel no insult to being called a "Brit". I see "Jap" as the same thing. So yes, you are just being silly and just making something out of nothing which in fact does nothing for the cause I suspect you are trying to support - in fact the complete opposite.

I am going to find the post now I was thinking about............

Bring back the golliwog!! (sp)

LMAO

im collecting the marmalade jars so i can have lots of golliwogs to work on my JAP car :nelson:

I agree, I spent a year working for a company in the middle east and was called a Brit every day, absolutely no offence was meant or taken

Squaddy (sp) That pissed me off .. big time. I was a highly trained professional (not mentioning my trade) but that fooked me off ..

TWATS

pmsl, pc has gone WAY too far now - at work my nickname is mowgli because when i started i was the youngest on my watch by 20 years and they called me a 'mancub' as an affectionate term. the fact that im half cast made it fit even better! anyway it stuck and i shall eternally be known as mowgs.

i like it, but when an outside organisation was brought in by the odpm to check for bullying and suchlike in the fire service i find that my nickname has been used in meetings to say that some blokes are racist!!! ffs they just went off and reported on it because theyd heard it in passing and never spoke to me once! f*ck*rs!

freedom of speech as long as its not malicious - thats what i believe in, not some pompous arse in an office somewhere flinching at every nickname and sentence just in case someone gets offended - f*ck off!

any way, rant over, no i dont think 'jap' is offensive.

Anyone who gets offended is weak and deserves to be offended

Surely being called a shortened name such as Brit or Jap could never be as bad as the nicknames you'd get at school FFS so why can't some people handle it in adult life? What worries me is that money actually gets spent on this PC boll0cks! Everyone knows what takes the p1ss and what doesn't, we don't need someone telling us that we need to refer to a blackboard as a chalkboard. My Z is black, is THAT offensive? the only difference is the word "board" FFS!!!

the other one is drain hole cover cos some stupid bint decided she didnt like 'man'hole

i think 'paki' is looked on as racist cos it was used with malice back in the 70s and 80s (was it?) otherwise its just another shortening like Jap and Brit etc.. i know loads of Asians and call the close ones pakis (in a friendly way) as a bit of banter. They call me 'honky' back tho
