Whats the fastest. A 300zx? A GTO or a Supra twin turbo. Or the top skyline. Also why do you guys think the 300zx is better than supras, GTO's ect ect. I really just prefer the look of the Z myself. It really does look powerful, where as a supra looks cheep looking and the GTO well Im just not keen on that. And skylines and Evo's and scoobies simply look like famliy cars gone. So come on explain to me why the 300zx is the best out of the big jab supercars?

theres very little between the 3, the UK Supra has more power than the others as standard & i think is about 0.1 sec quicker 0-60. the GTO is slightly slower.

bit of entry level tuning & you'll be hard pressed to tell any difference at all!

however the Zed looks like a supercar & the Supra looks like a frog. the GTO looks like add on central with all its fins & scoops.

oh & zed owners are more of a laugh :D

300 has more road presence, people actually turn there heads and say damn where as the others are ugly

i have always loved the 300, but like anything in the world every has there own taste. with abit of money and rench time any of these cars can be made to go stupid, and it is true 300's do get more looks just for the simple fact of that theres not many about and its not as common as the supra, skyline and other jap cars..... thats my input for this

Where as I agree with you, how many times do you see a Skyline going down the road? I'd say that the 300ZX, Skyline and Honda NSX are the rarest of all the Jap sports cars. Scoobies, Supras, GTO's, EVO's, Pulsar's, 200SX's, etc are everywhere! In fact you cant seem to go out anywhere these days without either seeing a Scooby or an EVO!!

The looks and the rarety value are what I like about my Zed.

In my opinion its not to do with whats faster until the quarter mile and even then its down to driver reaction time its to do with what you like and what you influence was. Mine was 2 things: i always wanted a lotus carlton i drove one and was impressed with the fact it did 176mph out of the packet and had room for 4 people (more people to scare sh*tless in the car) but after talking to the people who owned them (most being trainspotters) all they told me about for the first 20 minutes was how it kept breaking down before saying "but its a nice car." The second influence was a rich t*sser who wanted his new zed cleaned back in 89 when i was a car valeter and he insisted a walk 2 miles to pick him up, drive him in his "£30,000" car to talk to my boss then drop him off in town so he could shop for some more pink shirts. So i took his car for a little jaunt like Ferris Buellers day off film. I touched 100mph so fast i nearly wet myself i was 21 years old at the time, i then picked up my girlfreind from work and screamed the thing round the outskirts of my hometown IT WAS GREAT !! subsequently i nearly got sacked and my girlfreind got a written warning for leaving work without a good enough excuse. That stuck in my memory all this time and now i relive that day about three times a week (i tell myself i must go to the shops for some crap or drop off invoices to customers when i could post them) its pesonal choice

If your thinking about whats going to be cheepest to run and maintain.

Then don't mod any of the cars you've mentioned, beause unless you do it properly and that means spending about as much as it would cost you to buy a new car. I assure you they will break sooner or later. As standard I#d say the Skyline would be the most reliable then the Supra followed by the Z.

I ran my Zed with 1bar of boost 130,000 miles before she went pop. How reliable and powerful do you really want. 350bhp is enough for anyone really unless you want to get into a p1ssing contest.

Id be happy with a standard Z, How many miles are you likely to get out of bog standard Z TT thats well looked after?

Also i thought you could get a Z up 380-400bhp with only some light modding. What would it take to get a standard TT up to 400bhp and how reliable would she be there after assuming the job was done right?

I'm sure that someone on here has a daily used srandard Z with about 180,000 on the clock and no major repairs. I also saw in one of the Zclub magazines (I think spring 94. someone on here will know) a white Zed that won best of show (standard Cat) and that had done 180k with just general maintenance.

You can chip and boost a standard Z to about 430bhp at the crank = 350bhp at the wheels, but don't expect it to last too long before she does go pop.

So 380-400ish is reasonably OK which will give you about 320/330 at the wheels. which is a fair hike as standard car only puts about 230 to the wheels.

In my exp, 2 mates had a UK spec 6spd Supra and the other a P reg GTO, Supra was faster than my Z, just. Brakes made me look like I was still on the gas. But the GTO was no where.

This is it really ;) .....

According to WhatCar and AutoCar tests comparing all 3 together (UK stock motors that is) the Supra is quicker. In UK spec form it should be at 326bhp and 100kgs lighter than a ZX.

The 3000gt suffers worse from turbo lag and pre 2000 cars (later ones supposedly had 320bhp) with 281bhp and a lardy 1800kg take over 16s to reach 100 compared to 14.5 in the ZX (but only 12.5 in a Supra :o )

0-60 in them is Supra 4.9, ZX 5.4 and 3000gt 5.8 - so close it is down to driver ability.

The ZX is way quicker in the mid-range than a GT but not quite as quick as a Soop. ZX is the best looking though and when a Soop still costs considerably more, the ZX is better value too

However the true enthusiast prefers the ZX as the best driver's car - read Evo mag opinion.

At the end of the day, drive all 3 and make your own choice.

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

IMO a lot of the difference is down to your own taste.

I would say the Supra and Zed are more of a match then the GTO though, which does'nt quite cut it, It might have the grip but its still behind the zed in proven track times, and sheer driver enjoyment....and looks with all those stick on plastic bits...and too heavy....and......and.... ;)

One thing to add about the Supra, is that the Former Chief Editor for Motor Trend has this to say : "In 1993 Toyota had been sending cheater samples to the media to get better performance numbers"

.....although Im sure the UK Supra does still have the edge......but I'd never swap it for the zed in a million years :D

I think youve also got to remember the first z32 came out in 89 and the first developement would of started a couple of years earlier. The others then just followed! and I guess had newer technology.

Barry.

Exactly.

the 300zx z32 set the stage for cars which were all in production at the time, hence the over the top styling of the supra and gto which came out shortly after, both trying to outdo the other.

On, speed,........who cares? what's a 0.1 second difference? even if it were more it's clear the 300zx will stand the test of time, moreso than these ........i dunno................just in yer face silly looking motors.

They're all similar in performance when standard, the Supra probably has the edge. When modified, both cars make similar power. But you'd find you have spent an extra 50-100% more for the MK4 Supra.

300 ZX is an underated car by all walks of life, which can be a good thing. It's pretty much the same as my MK3 Supra, most people and so called car enthuasts wouldn't know what it is, but I prefer it that way rather than having every chav staring at at you and say "nice scooby".

Testdrove all 3 of them. Jap Supra & 300ZX very similar in performance - 300ZX UK TT was actually quicker and cheaper that's why I Bought it!!! GTO was a 6 speed TT, very nice car but far to heavy and couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding.. And UK spec Supra was the quickest, only just but far to expensive and not good value for money... Haven't driven a Skyline yet

I tend to agree with the general opinion here. I went for the Z because although I used to have a thing about the GTO I now think it looks extremely dated plus it's supposed to be not such a great drive. The Supra I think is a nice car but the styling is just a bit more aggressive and boy-racerish than I was wanting whereas the Z is really slinky and looks extremely cool without looking like you're really showing off when you drive it... unless the roof's off of course in which case you invariably look like a bit of a tart but I can live with that. ;)

If money were no object I'd drive a Skyline but it would need to be completely suited and booted, but then if money were no object I suppose I could afford to do that anyway.

i think the Skyline is looked at as the ultimate jap supercar and rightly so. go with this if you can afford it and you want a fast saloon. if you want a hot hatch, go with a nice Evo 6  or Pulsar GTiR if youve not got the budget for an Evo. if you want a sporty coupe, go with the Z  if you want a matchbox car get a 3000 :hurl:

One thing about the Soop, is it seems to be very strong....read reliable

I hear this quoted many times about the Supra being reliable. Will this not be down too (even in part) being newer. Therefore less wear and tear!.

That makes sense, but I think Toyota's have a pretty good reputation for reliability in any case. Actually the other reason a Skyline was out (apart from the glaring budget problem) is that I'd heard they're not terribly reliable, whereas the Z isn't too bad. Bear in mind I just had a Renault which was great for the first 5 years and then started to fall apart at the seams so the Z would have to be really awful to seem that bad.

I disagree.

The Skyline is a great car, but it isn't a rewarding car to drive just brutally quick. The Z keeps you on your toes and takes more driver imput, I think more rewarding to drive, is much nicer looking than any of the others, has a more timeless look and will age better.

Since owning the Z I have bought a brand new Nissan Patrol (similar price to a new Skyline), A BMW 740 for the missus 47K. Replace the Patrol with a several Volvo T5's and imported a new Celica TRD for my missus. Then spent £25K + on the Z so its not a price thing.

+ look at Mac and several others on here. If it was a skyline the wanted they'd have one. No it's not about money it's just got a charisma of its own.
