Finding a good one?

Im thinking of buying a 300zx as my next car. But I find it hard to find really good ones for sale. It seems 95% are dogs. Is it still possible to get for example a 1994 or above with 50,000mlies or less on the clock, Unmodified in anyway, black or silver with full leather and air con ect? If so where cause most on autotrader web site look older and high miles.

Also whats the running costs like ? I no my insurance would probably be over £1000 as im only 26.

Also when did they stop making 300zx's Iv seen models as new as 1999 but i thought they stopped making them years before that? And is there any garages that can handel the likes of a z in central scotland?

Welcome .. you have come to the right place. Guys and Girls on this forum love their ZX's. They look after them and you may be lucky and get a real good one. Most modify their cars here but there are quite a few that like to keep them clean and as standard.

Running costs vary, but a Z isn't cheap to run anyway. If you can't afford to run one then don't buy one.

Have fun .. and check out the buyers guide.

Welcome,

Its true, there are a lot of bad examples out there, and its those that are bringing zed prices now.

Leather is standard on UK models, rarer on Jap imports, but a 2nd hand Leather interior can be picked up for around £300-£400, or http://www.zcentre.co.uk do some nice Leather retrims.

Aircon/Climate is standard, at least I've never seen one without. Cruise is optional, but most have it.

Running costs - Expect low 20's mpg, more on gentle motorway journeys, less when playing. There are plenty of excellent traders on this forum for new, used and Performance parts, which significantly help keep costs down. Although it is a Supercar that was just shy of £40k when new, and that is reflected in running costs.

Sales ended in the Uk in 1994, but production and sales in Japan continued to 2000, and In 1999 it had some facelift changes. Most notably being the 1999 Spec Front bumper and rear lights which are a popular upgrade.

Insurance - Im 25 and Pay £650 a year with Admiral

Most of the well cared for examples pop up for sale on this Forum, but there is always the option of getting a Recomended Importer to source exactly what your after from Japan.

The newer the car is, the rarer it becomes, as production decreased each year.

Good luck with the purchase.

Welcome to the forum :hyper:

You're right about the 95% being dogs - most new imports now are rubbish as the good ones were brought over here years ago...

1994/5 was the last year of the UK cars and there are one or two good ones for sale but most owners of these hang on to them. Newer cars will be imports as they were still sold new in Japan until 2000, although the post 1997 cars are pretty rare.

Best bet is to buy off a forum member here as it will have been properly looked after. As for running costs, they aren't too bad considering their performance potential and Nissan reliability but compared to ordinary cars they will cost more. The ZX has a healthy appetite for petrol and tyres, otherwise general costs are reasonable unless something does go wrong....

Good hunting

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I can certainly recommend buying from a member of the Forum, had no problems at all since purchase, unlike my first one from a "trader"...

There's some really nice ones for sale right now, go take a look :)
