Guys

You may be able to help here! What is the quatre mile time of a standard manual 300zx TT. The reason I ask is my mate has just got a standard MR2 turbo and is asking me for a challenge at Santa pod in the summer!! What are my chances!

neither of us are going to 'play 'with the cars, ie to lose weight etc.

Thanks

MR2 Will kill you

GO AND SIT IN THE CORNER!!! :slap:

My old Zed was a Manual, highish miles, only mod was twin exhaust, and on his second try (my mate who now owns it) he got 14.3 Sunday just gone. I'm sure it would do less as both times his reaction was near a second and he got crap starts... these things get better the more you do it... :)

Think the stock Mr2 with matching hair dryer measures in the 12s.

Thanks Guys

So can I just ask then, what is the point of our 1500kg 3.0 petrol guzzeling tanks. I bought this car not only for its looks, but for the fact that everyone seems to go on about its 'awsome' performance, which in reality, on paper over a quarter mile, its no quicker than a civic type R or golf vr6. I bet they also go round corners faster!

Am I now showing my frustration?

Thanks Guys

The stated Mr2 Turbo 1/4 mile times are similar to the zed - High 13's low 14's

The zed would kill an Mr2 Turbo at anything over probably about 50mph and its top speed is only about 150mph.

..oh and Golf VR6 1/4 mile is considerably slower at low to mid 15's secs. No idea about the Civic Type R, but I would expect high 14's, low 15's...and again the zed would blow it away at high speeds.

I did'nt buy a zed to go as quick as possible down a 1/4 mile bit of tarmac. Thats just one aspect of performance, and the zed still does pretty well at it. Mid-range and top end it seriosly leaves all these newer little pocket rockets standing still.

and Im sure a Type R is a good handling Hothatch..but its FWD (Urgh!)...and I know for sure the Zed would destroy a Golf VR6 on the bends and all other situations...except for its turning circle when parking ;)

Thanks Guys

Thanks Guys

The Z is 15 years old and uses old technology, for a 1500kg car, it bloody shifts though. In its days it could hold its own but the cars now days are getting really silly. Most new hot hatches have around 200bhp and a PTW ratio about the same as the Z. They are much lighter so will also handle much better. The Z is an awesome car in every way but is more of a cruiser.

Tell me what other 15 year old car, you can pick up for KA money and attracts the attention the Z does.......

If you bought it for a boy racer car then you have bought it for the wrong reasons. For the money you cannot buy a better machine..

I understand guys

Ive had the Z 3+ years now, however, as ive been tinkering, ive only realy driven it a few times, and never at over 100mph, just usualy round town and a few of the lanes. It has not CATS, full stainless exhaust, and apparently, when bought, was told it was chipped and camed, hence, no power low down, (very easy to stall). Im just getting worried!!!!

Need some more ponies under the bonnet, just for good measure I think!

This is a brilliant way of putting it

Looks

Power

180mph+

0.60 5 secs

RWD

Comfort

Gadgets

Sound

I could go on

This car has it all, it just so happens to be bloody good at everything and master of quite a few things as well.

Remember, no matter how good you think something is, something out there is always better in a certain aspect.

Try putting said MR2/hot hatch behind a lorry in 3rd gear at 55mph and try and overtake it, before the other little toys have even got going the Zed will be past it and flying off, this is real world useability we're talking about here, it just happens to be pretty damn good at 1/4 mile as well ;)

The fact that it's drop dead gorgeous is a bonus as well

Point taken, and yes, it is rather good looking!!

Hey Karls300zxtt,Did you fix the serious vibration? I've still got mine and I'd love to know how you resolved it.

having owned just about every affordable sub 30k sports car there is, I can assure you the Z is one of the finest cars ive ever owned, out staged ONLY by the evo, i rate it over my supra tt, which was running well over 400bhp

Hi

Nope, still vibrating!

All say its the Prop shaft mountings.

Karl

You say your car was chipped and cammed? It sounds a bit suspect, I doubt the cams are wild enough to cause it to stall lots, and if they were, and the chip and set up was good, (but then it stallls so???) it should go lots faster than standard.

another nice point with zed ownership...although a few younger owners wont agree is the cheap insurance you can get once it's a 2nd car +30yo driver...people with M3's etc are paying much more

very true - im still young but when i put it as a second car my insurance literally halved!

Its a Z

Its Perfection

You will not find a better machine for $$$$

before my zed i owned a mk2 golf with a vr6 engine and running gear, it had a lot of work done to the engine, and in a lighter body it could shift to say the least. I thought it was the fastest thing on the road it also kept up with a porshe boxter, then i drove my zed and realised that the golf werent really that fast, so a normal vr6 would eaten up and spat out by a zed. As for the type r my mate's got one and an mr2 he says the mr2 is quicker than the honda, but my zed is much quicker than his mr2 hope this puts the story straight for ya
