Car has been running fine, tonight seen a mate out in his car, and decided to give chase....

Floored her in 2nd, went to change to 3rd, and no clutch... pedal feels like its notchy and no preassure. Pumping it a few times, seemed to get preassure back, and a nice smooth feel to the pedal, but the clut6ch isnt engageing enough to select gear...

any ideas?

I believe the car was fitted with a new clutch less than a year ago

Both the clutch master (on the bulkhead in the engine compartment) and the slave cylinder (on the transmission down below) go. I had clutch probs and have had 2 masters and a slave done. Touch wood, the new slave seems to have done the trick but it's only a month since...

ย

And remember, the clutch system has two bleed points and both need doing. Good luck.

Thanks gio, how would i know, or how can i test this mate ?

ย

im really gutted at this point....

Forgot to add, there was a slight smell of burning when it happened, and i have noticed, if im reversing and paddling the clutch, it smells a bit too...not sure if related

sounds like a problem with the hydraulic system..

ย

maybe an (oil) leak...also check the cap of the clutch hydr.fluid reservoir.

Ive checked the small fluid container on the bulk head, and the level is fine. should i check anywhere else?

ย

thanks for trying guys

Check both cylinders for leaks and also the fluid line itself. ;)

Another test is to stick a finger in the resevoir to the bottom and check for black deposits-that will be the m/c seals breaking up!

when you say both do you mean the small one and the one on the brake servo? or is there one ive missed?

Master and slave-only two as far as I know bud!

Bulkhead next to servo and slave on g/box. ;)

ok, just been to check. fluid level is def fine, and there are no particles in it, though there is a very faint smell like burnt.

Clutch now feels ok, but still cant engage gear, get a horible noise like when you crunch gears.

thanks manta, ill ty that tomorrow, this will be fun, im a complete tit at this........

Good luck bud!

Well, she is in a local garage having the fluid replaced as we speak.

If the worse comes, and the clutch has fried, she will be done saturday, but i have to get the car a few miles away.

ย

many thanks to john barker...

and to manta, for giving me a start place, i am hoping, that you are right, and ive just boiled the fluid

ย

keep ya fingers crossed for me

I think your clutch FORK may have broken, you need to look inside the bell housing to identify this fault, it is a relativley easy fix, it can normally be welded temporarily.

ย

It can also be done with a little difficulty without removing the gear box from the car :)

ย

If this is the case the garage will need a magnet to fish the broken piece out of the bell housing so that they can weld it back together, once welded it should be stronger than new :)
