Ok, here's one for ya!

Had the Zed on a rollin road last week, all stock apart from big twin exhaust. Was told about de-catting, but as usual, thought about questions AFTER I had left the place!!!

Stock '91 Jap TT,....how do I de-cat???

can i get to the ceramic bricks with the exhaust on the car?

do i have to buy a replacement section of pipework underneath the car?

or do i have to buy new down-pipes?

not havin access to a ramp/pit really hampers a good head scratchin sesh to work out what is what and see how the thing is set up!!

Anyone with anyone pointers?

Cheers All

Yes, you can just remove the section with the cat in. You have 2 options really, firstly you can gut out the cats and stick 'em back on, or secondly you can buy de-cat pipes. Obviously the first option costs you nothing, some say having the empty chamber in the exhaust hampers the flow a bit and that de-cat pipes are better, personally i'd take my chances and go with the free option though ;).

Also what you have to bear in mind is your cars mileage (or more specifically your turbo's mileage), if its getting on a bit (60k+) then you might want to reconsider de-cat'ing, its known to cause accelerated wear on the rear oil seals in the turbo's.

HI all

Sorry to highjack the thread for a minuite ,but if I was to decat my z do I need to do anything else or does the engine compensate for the increased flow.

Also what happens to the sensors in the cats.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

the sensors in the cats are just temp sensors, these can just be tied out of the way, the O2 sensors are indeed before the cats.

you could gut the existing pipes, but fitting decat (or test) pipes is a much better option for flow.

the downpipes are a different section again & can be replaced with better flowing "dump pipes" (which have a seperate section coming from the wastegate)

ask the traders here for deals, & if you need a ramp iv got 7 of them :D
