Probe V6...

Hi,

I'm new to these there forum's but what would you think would be the best (unbiased if poss) to go for.

The Probe is a 94' V6 with 86k a full yr's mot, tax Aug, or a standard 300ZX also a 94', 95k, mot Dec, tax Sept.

I just want some opinion's please on this, as Iv'e heard so much about both car's.

Exactly, all I wanted was advise, I thought the ZX was a better car, but just wondered how much.

We're not slagging you off personally mate, as we dont even know you .

But since most of us on here own 300ZXs then all our opinions are going to be biased.

You say you are looking at a standard ZX. Wot do you mean? Std as in std spec or std as in no turbos.

In my opinion you will not get a very good ZX of any description for £2000. However if that is as high as you can afford , well fair play to you.

Just bear in mind that 300ZXs are not a cheap option when it comes to maintenance and replacement parts. If you buy a dog that fails on you , and there are plenty about in the £2000 bracket, then you will easily double that figure. EG a very competitive quote to change(not fix) an engine is £500. No parts in this quote.

Tread carefully. Fuel consumption will be the least of your worries. I dunno what mine does, and I dont really care as it is only a weekend car on limited mileage.

Why dont you come to a meet if you are serious , there are lots of regional meets. Look in the Events section. Most of us are nice people really. Its just that "Probe" word that brings out the worst in us!

And I still think my 300 is better than ANY Probe!!!!

And your probably right too!, yea it would be the TT, but yea I also realise what your all saying about the 2k ZXTT.

But all I can do is go and see them and take it from that, but I'll see what I can go to (money wise) I know you get what you pay for, well sometime's!

Probe? why not a Mazda mx6? afterall, they're the same car.

V6 motor with jap reliability. Don't even think about the 16v probe!

I rank the probe alongside the calibra, good in their time, but not

anymore....dated styling, coupe based on the saloon running gear

of the mondeo/cavalier.

To even consider it in the same vein as a z is shamefull!..lol.

The z was a 'one off' a true 'supercar' if you will. There is no

shopping version or saloon version, just the few variants that

we all respect & admire.

Seriously though mate...consider the mx6, same running gear

& engine as the probe v6, just loads more style.

just my tuppence worth....Simon.

You'll find a lot of the slagging off, is due to such an offensive comparison.

Your comparing a 165bhp FWD Coupe (its not even a proper sports car) to a 300bhp RWD Japanese Supercar.

The only thing I can say is that the Ford would be a lot cheaper to insure, run and maintain..for obvious reasons.

if £2k is your Max budget, then forget about the zed. £4k+ for a reasonable early example as prices are so cheap at the moment.

got to agree with pete here. where you from, if you get to a meet then the lads & lasses will be only too happy to let you have a good luck around there zed's. answer any question's and take you for a spin. belive me after that you'll find the money.

Fully agree here. They are two totally different cars, The Probe like its successor the Cougar and opposition the Calibra were little more than warmed over saloons with a fancy body-work conversion.

They were (and still can be) good cars though and a worthy step up from all the annonymous hot hatch boxes out there if you want individuality.

But the ZX was built from the ground up as a sporting GT car, designed specifically to go fast. For that you have to pay - hence the differences in prices when new.

As for economy, I have a stock TT auto and average 19mpg. I've not had less than 18 round town, but I have seen it drop to 11 driving very hard and fast across the Yorkshire Moors

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
