There arn't many companies that will insure an import and from the ones that do I'm finding it a huge struggle to find an insurance quote under £2k. If I can't get a decent quote the car may have to go because I can't afford to have it sitting around. If my car was a UK car I'd be laughing.

I'm 21 with 2 years ncb, how much are you guys paying and who are you insured with?

And noone mention Houghton's because just the name pisses me off, 'club insurance', yeah right!

Firebond seems good. Im 21, import tt manual... on the drive, 3 yrs no claims (touch wood) and its £1600 fully comp with Bell Direct

Adi

p.s. ive declaired non standard alloys, exhaust, and spoiler

25 years old, 4yr NCB protected(protected seems to add about 10-15%), TT Import, No points or accidents, driveway. . Myself and Wife Insured. Fully Comp.

Elephant.co.uk - £670 (was £850 without my wife as 2nd driver  )

Directline - £903 (and I think they put it down as UK car, as no import listed)

Admiral - £618 (with wife as 2nd driver - did'nt try without)

I've been in this situation myself in fact I still am in a way. I'm with Houghton's (sorry for mentioning that name! ;)), signed up with them in 2003 before they introduced their revised policy regarding younger drivers i.e. virtually not considering anyone under 30 (I'm 28, 29 this July)

Due to the introductory offer they gave me of 1 year's "free" no claims bonus (which won't carry over if I changed companies) it suits me, at the moment, to stay with them as I previously lost my hard earned 5 years no claims in an accident (moral: always take out insurance for your no claims bonus as well!:()

The best piece of advice I can give you is this: buy a second car. Really.

Find any old motor in Autotrader, something in the sub £500 category that might not look fantastic but is cheap to run/repair and is relatively sound. My sh1tter of choice was a Nissan Sunny Estate which I picked up for the sum of £350. It looks terrible but it gets me from A to B, I can leave it anywhere and not have to worry about it and it's got the added bonus of a boot that is soooo huge I can fling anything in it...it's been very useful for transporting big paintings, bumpers and other car parts so far! :D

I was paying just under a grand for my Zed before and now I'm paying just under £400 for both cars! (Zed is garaged and limited to 5000 miles, though an extra £25 will increase it to 7000 if needed).

It might not be the solution for everyone but it's certainly something to look into.

Leigh.

Firebond Wouldn't insure me.

Elephant and admiral gave me exact the same quotes and were £20 cheaper with my dad on. Now that doesn't make any sence to me at all????

I'm not exactly young (29) but oddly enough I found the difference between import and UK not to be too bad with Norwich Union (these are unmodified):

UK is about £600 - £650 from memory (no mods)

Japanese import around £750 (I've since declared new wheels so have had to pay out more)

Just shop around. Depends who you go with: some places were quoting me £1600 - £1700 for the import. Crazy stuff.

Hi mate, I just bought a UK 1992 300zx and my insurance is costing me £1520 fully comp with a cat back declared, 1 non fault accident (not sure why the premium went up cos of this!?) and 3 family members on the policy.... i'm 21 years old with 1 year ncb and the insurance is with Bell Direct on a proper 12month policy... same company as admiral and elephant but was cheaper for me!

the quote for an import was £1890.... give them a shout http://www.bell.co.uk
