Hi Guys,

Anyone know anything about GATSOs? Driving home tonight up the dual carriageway (40 zone) there is a fixed camera. I know about it and so always make sure I crawl past it at 40/41. But today, I was half way through the hatchings, with other cars behind me and all of a sudden there was a double flash! I'm positive it wasn't me, but when the camera covers several lanes, and all they've got to go on is a static picture with some white lines on it, how do they make sure they prosecute the right person? I know it wasn't me, but what if I get accused?? :(

I've got a clean license at the moment (I'm 26) so I'm sure this is helping me get reasonable quotes on a potential Zed and I don't want it fcuked up by some speeding Numpty!!

Any help or advice would be great!!

Cheers guys, sorry for the long post...

because the one that is speeding will have covered the most white lines between the 2 pictures

The real story is,

He was driving home after an afternoon in the pub, and was in a little rush because the MOT and insurance had ran out so he needed to spend little time as possible on the road.

On the dual carrageway he saw the gatso coming up and thought that he could speed through but mate it so the car which he was about to over take will block the view of his reflective numberplate from the camera. He mis-judged the timing and went through the lights at a speed of 72mph and he wants to know if there is any way of getting out of it? ;) hehehehehe

Only joking.

Where you the one closest to the camera? I think they are automoted now, and I dont know if the computer will work out who was speeding and just get their information. It should really!!!!!!!

If not, if you get a letter through the post, write back to them saying that you remember the camera going off and you believe it was another car which set it off. They then should check whether it is your car or not.

Was there a partition between the lanes of the dual carrageway? Is it posible that a car in the other direction set it off.

Also double check that there are no new 30mph signs which have been slapped up.

Another posibility is that I have heard of some cameras ramdomly setting off just to keep people on thier toes and to show the camera is real. I have never seen them personally and I think I have only seen one source saying they exist, and that was a while ago.

This does happen. A couple of cameras near me have been set to "random flash". Nearly shat myself when one went off on the opposite side of the road as I was speeding towards it. I was the only car in sight

Two flashes means two photos and your speed will be judged from that. So if you're not speeding, no problem.

On a camera related note, I think I got 'done' by one about 10 days ago. Still, I was probably over the limit from the night before so I count it as a blessing. A good old fashioned police officer would have breathalised me and taken my licence (thus tripling my insurance for ten years once I could drive again).

Marvelous.

Knowing the Cozzers they will send every fooker a fine

Thanks for the advice fellas. I'll just have to wait and see. I wasn't the closest to the camera, I think there were at least 3 cars behind me so I'm hoping they will be the ones getting the letter

Better get some funds sorted out for a zed fairly soon though - my cavalier was making quite a racket just now coming down the M40 from Ikea (where i spent the last 3 hours with the missus. It wasn't too boring though, we did argue for at least 1 hour!!) ;)

Have a search on a previous link, I think it'scalled police advice or something, loads of stuff on there about speeding cameras etc.
