Hi i am considering buying a 300 zx and would love a swb, i used to work for nissan a few yrs ago so i know a little about the cars but would welcome any advice on purchasing one ie which model is best ,, turbo or non auto or manual etc. also i viewed a k reg swb manual at the weekend that at first glance looked lovely but on closer inspection the sills were badly corroded and had a lot of repair. should this put me off or was this just a poor example.

i want the car as a second car for summer fun so i really want a car that will last a few years and not have corrosion issues

many thanks :

Before all the replies start flooding in the turbo non turbo question is your personal choice fuel and insurance dependent and auto or manual i think a manual is more fun but thats just my personal opinion.

genrally a manaul turbo, will put the biggest smile on your face!!I think imports as a general rule will be more 'rust free', but this is not always the case. There are plenty of bad ones out there , but i'm sure an equal amount of goodin's as well. There are a few FAQ's on the site, so just sign up and go lookin...

i would like manual yes my main concern was that the car i viewed was corroded quite badly and was wondering if it was a poor example or fairly common

It can be quite common, after all you are dealin with a car that could be potenially 15 years old and so corrosion is a real problem. The sills are a bad point as are the rear arches. I bought a Uk twin turbo with lot of rust around these very parts, but was more blind to the fact and was more besotted with the car. Its amazin what wax oil can do and generally can hide a multitude of sins under the car

Hi Jaschan,

Welcome to the club, any questions and problems you have, will quickly be sorted here.....

Anyway, I am selling my ZX, I have a UK Manual Turbo.

You can see more about it here.

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=44783

It is a VERY clean car, with practically no rust anywhere.

It sailed through it's MOT about 6 weeks ago, so cant be bad eh?

I dont know where you are, but you are welcome to come along and take a look... I think you'll be hard pushed to find one as clean, tidy and nice as mine for the money.

More details can be fouond on the link in my signature below,

Cheers mate

Steve

Thanks mate, I washed and polished it today too, but was too busy after that to get photos and upload them... looks bloody marvelous now! LOL

Hi mate,

welcome to the forum.

This must have been a bad example - an SWB would of course be an import, so for an import to be that rusty.....well, I'd stay well clear!

Plenty of good examples for sale on here at the moment - they have the advantage of having been well looked after by enthusiasts so should be better than the Auto Trader offerings.

Good hunting

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

thanks for all the advice, i will soon be picking up my 300zx L reg manual non turbo which i bought, i checked underneath on a ramp and am glad to say it is like new, also it has a genuine 50,000 miles on the clock and the inyterior is perfect,

only prob other than paint was a little dull was that the gearstick had quite a bit of lateral movement when in gear,,,, any advice

many thanks

New gear lever bushes should fix that. I had same on mine when I bought it.

now that shes all mine,, i have an insurance quote which isnt too bad but is anyone aware of any other good insurers out there that i could consider,, that maybe do a low mileage or limited use policy

well done mate,

you could try http://www.elephant.co.uk

I use them and they have me covered full comp for £340

but there are others on here cheaper

Steve

Bell Direct were cheapest for me.

Some people find Adrian Flux good.

Houghtons are the 'club' insurer and good if you're 30+.

Yep, try Houghtons if your 30+ , if not then I found admiral cheapest for me. Im 25 and pay £650 FC.
