Looks like I am gonna inherit my dads m-reg Renault 19 Diesel as he's bought a new Megane, anyone looked into insuring both cars under the same policy and if so what companies.

Try Houghtons in the traders section, i have an astra 1.6 as my

daily driver + the z as a classic, the pair cost me £609 f/c.

Depends on your age though, think u have to be over 30?

Cheers Bob, when i renewed my insurance on my zed in nov houghtons couldnt beat my renewal with AON, but with 1k limited miles they might be more competative and age is on my side as i'm 37.

John,

Deffo insure it on a classic policy, as Ryan i do but with houghtons, all mods declared, 30yo, clean liecense, ok postcode, garaged, limited to 5k miles, swt tt slicktop, Fully comp £338 (scary that)

I got a quote from norwich union (been with them 14 years on bikes and daily cars) they wanted £780 ish FC for a main car policy which had my daily motor on it aswell, or £230 FC just for my other car!

Cheers for the replies guys, I am on an everyday classic policy with AON that uses my no-clains, but i'll start phoning around on Tuesday as I get the Renault 19 Be Bop 1.9 Diesle (twin turbo GTR V-Spec) on Wednesday hopefully then I can start saving all the money I used to use for fuelling the ZED for some bits'n'bobs I want for the ZED.

Does anyone know of any insurance companies that do second car classic policys with mods for guys around the age of 23

or even just as a classic car or a second car for 23 year olds

(its discrimination against the young i tell you)

If you phone haughtons ask for Ken, he was most helpfull with me.

Got mine insured with Carol Nash as a second car, 27, £200! Limited the mileage to 4000 per year and they dont use your no claims bonus either so it is free for your other car. Also got my daily runner Renault 19 insured with them also as a classic car and it costs me £100 more a year!!! Work that one out.

Lol Bazz I never thought of that.....I just phoned up Diamond Ins Consultants....they want a pic of the rear spoiler on my car that I have just slaved over the last few nights fitting it ffs, if they like it they will insure the car on Classic.....Insurance companies really know how to take the rip out of people.

So guys, what exactly constitutes a "classic"? I drive a Cavalier Sri at the moment( soon to be "upgraded" to a Vectra :slap: ) and want to get a Zed (TT Manual Import) as a second car for around 6K miles/year. I'll be 27 when my insurance runs out in May, with hopefully 6years NCB anyone got any ideas how is the best way to go??

Sorry to ask, but you guys seem to really know your stuff :D

classic insurance, n.c.b is not applied, but I can tell you that my 300zx and 200sx both come under that insurance

it is a bit modified :D , but they still cover it, you just pay extra, could get a stocker at £200ish, mine is £506 and the sx is £183. i use Houghtons ins. they just can not be your main car to be insured as a classic

I phoned my current zed insurer (aon) they will insure me for 347 on classic, but they wont allow me to drive the car to work, even though i take my car to work for 90% of my maintenance (access to pit, plus my tools and inside a warm w/shop as i am a truck mechanic) so that is kinda pissing me off a bit as i thought getting this 2nd car would be easy to organise but its getting to be a pain in the onions.

..but..how would they know ? If you had an accident, on the way to work...when you fill in the claim you just say you were on your way to xxxx, instead of work.

not that Im suggesting insurance fraud is a good idea ;)
