Finally landed at Ztech, so started the strip down for inspection / rebuild.

Need to replaced the weak plastic chain guides, but otherwise looks OK.

Going to leave stock internals for now, replace all gaskets and seals and get it in and running.

Looks bullet proof, the bottom end is 4 bolt and cross-bolted with a huge girdle too. Very esay design to dry sump too

Only real problem was that several of the cam cap bolts rounded (they're torx) so took ages to get the cams off.

Cheers again to Ryan for the space

Here's another one from yesterday. Hope you don't mind me posting it John, I think it gives a good indication of it's relative size...i.e. a bloody huge beast! :D

Hard to believe when seeing it but it's actually lighter than our stock engine by about 100lbs. After seeing John's I can't wait till mine arrives from Japan now...:D

Leigh.

P.S. The picture was taken not long after John had wrestled with the World's Most Well Put Together Shipping Crate. It was a close one, but John won in the end on points... ;)

And I won't mention the Pallet incident either... :slap: ;)

holy crap! wats the plans with that then - or is it a secret?

John,

Just to clarify, I take it this is a Nissan V8, and your gona shoehorn it into you Zed's engine bay, similar (or the same) as Leigh will be doing?

Sorry for the dumb question, but thought I had to ask :D

The very best of luck with it John,I hope it all works out for you mate going to be very interesting that's for sure.

whats the max HP a v8 can give obviousy being an N/A theres no boost, what about a supercharger??

yep heard they can have a supercharger charger bolter on and hit HUGE bhp !!

Nice one John. Hope Leigh gets his sometime soon too.

Best of luck to the pair of you, hope the fitting all goes well.

Regards,

Rob.

Cheers everyone, will keep posting as it's going along.

As for max bhp, I'm not too sure. Stock with modified intake etc should see about 350, with new cams and hi comp pistons, then 450 should be very possible (~100bhp/l). It's not really the point of this though, I'm trying to get away from forced induction as I want that instant throttle response and linearity that you only get from N/A.

If you really must turbo / SC them, it can be done. Albert uses his for salt flat racing and it's apparently ~2000 bhp (blown obviously)

 that is awesome. where are the v8s from?

this could be a very intresting year for the 300zx. hope every thing goes ok boys.

Good luck John, should make a cracking noise...no substitute for cubes an' all that! My V8 Range Rovers used to sound the b0110x and we all know what a V8 TreVoR sounds like...vrooommmmm...vroooommmmm! LARGE! ;)

Yeah, kinda thinking I might need an extra box on the exhaust !

Can't wait to hear it though. The induction noise should be awsome.

Landed was nearly the right word , if we had not have had the forklift it would have landed on the deck from the back of the lorry  :D having looked at the engine in some detail its probably the best put together engine I have seen (well apart from the cam saddles :D ), you think some of the 300zx engine parts are over engineered thats nothing compared to this , this engine was designed for racing :hyper: :hyper:

Nice one John, Cant wait to hear and feel the touque of the V8 :D

Get a move on, but make sure you leave some time for my Z LOL!
