Although I quite like the interior of the Zed I've been toying with the idea of re-modelling the interior for a while now, possibly putting my arty-farty skills into action and sculpting a new dash, doorcards, rear install etc.

It's kind of got me thinking: what makes a good interior?

What does everyone reckon? What's your favorite car interior and why? If you've got pics, post 'em. I'm interested in what aspects of the design (either already in the Zed or in another car) that make it stand out for you. On the flip side of things, is there anything that you really hate? Post up your thoughts folks...;)

Cheers,

Leigh.

 There will be no "zed" left when you've finished. lol :smash:

Im a fan of all Cockpit wrap-around style dashboards/interiors, and really like the Zed Interior.

However im partial to modern TVR interiors, except for the whole glue and staples build quality.

Not the greatest example picture, but you get the idea.

A Complete lack of Plastics !

Agree with David, I love the stock interior, only thing im not hot on is the pods (cruise control and Climate control)

I really love the TVR interiors, also i like the race look!

Oh BTW Leigh!!..........Your crazy!! LOL, but i like that!

Agreed on the TVR interior. There's something about the way the centre channel merges into the dash, it's almost organic. The complete leather covering is also a massive plus in my book and with not one bit of plastic on show!

A cautionary tale of what happens when you combine partial insomnia with having too much time on your hands! :D

I know that feeling LMAO!! :D

How about something new and radical - I've been toying with a subtle balance between pine and cork myself :D

Leigh - I like your question. Unfortunately I don't think there is an answer, just 'opinions'. But I guess from peoples opinions, you can make up your own mind. Its all down to taste. I think an interior that has steered away too much from the original starts to look a little tacky. Having said that, one that is done with good taste will look good........so I am totally contradicting myself, LOL.

End of the day - you do whatever you damn well want and whatver makes you happy!

Im sure i saw somehwere last year, a car from this club had a custom interior, changing all the switches etc, anybody have a pic?

That's Rich's car - user name Touslecoq. Send him a PM and he'll no doubt email you a load of pics if you're interested. His is the Daytona Blue Viper fronted Zed that was at the PPS shoot on Sunday.

thats the one.

carisma tvr by jamie shaw - lurvlee

thats gotta take balls to try and take such a good standard interior and rip it to shreds. (he does have a 'bit of experience' at doin it tho! :D )

I like the look of the late sixties Stingrays. All aggresive individual clock pods that protrude from the dash yet still flow organically into the dash. They were sleak and un fussy at the same time. I also love the neat rows of flush buttons and indigo and red elumination in the new Passats and think a fussion of these two styles would look modern with enough retro edge to give it real kudos.

The basic Z interia is really quite good as its not too fussy. Though too many clocks, turbo timers, TV screans, head units, remote controls and boost controlers all of different shapes and sizes. Tend to make most Zeds I see look an awful mess inside.

I've got a few ideas in mind mate but really I was just curious, after thinking about doing it, as to what interiors people particularly liked and why, as I've been surfing the net looking at lots of different types. For example, I found this the other night (see attachment). I don't like everything about it but some aspects caught my eye such as the metal finishings, leather trim and bold shapes. Thought it might be interesting to see if anyone had any favorites!

digital dash.... lovely... like knight rider. :D one of the only reasons I had an Astra GTE back "in the day" haha

Nice! Like the way everything curves round to focus on the driver. Very clean and simple layout as well. Think I might end up having a go at this! I'd have to pass it over to someone else for a leather re-trim when finished (I know my limitations!;)) but I can't see why creating a new dash in fibreglass should be any different from any other sculpture I've made. Really need a second knackered dash to experiment on now!

You'll also need it in the car as well to ensure all angles and joints are bang on. I don't like the picture you posted though Leigh. It looks like one of those cream plastic molded interiors you get in the cheap die cast toy cars from china. You know the ones I mean. They arn't based on anything in the real world, but look like they should have been on space 1999 or UFO.

Lol! When you put it like that I can see your point mate! :D It's not my favorite but what I liked was that it looked clean and uncluttered. Like you say, a lot of Zeds end up looking a mess with all the aftermarket bits we fit inside them. Would be nice to make a dash that would still give out all the information we need but with a bit of style about it ;)

Leigh I completely agree with you. infact before I had my engine build etc I used to have my Apexi Boost and Fuel controlers in the gluve box so as not to mess it up. I'm making a new centre consol to accept the Profec B so all you'll see is the screan and a intergrated Ipod Dock so it will just fit in flush + a VW Passat style head unit. All flush and neat. Then 3 individual clock pods in the centre (like Toulequoc's/Richy's) and one next to door pillar. All indido and Red illumination. I'm going to keep the original lines just smooth it out and update (Keep it sleak and simple).

Nice one Mark, sounds like it's going to look great! Simple, clean, smooth and "factory fitted" have all been watchwords behind my exterior mods and they equally apply to the interior. Would be interested to see your progress mate! :)
