can somebody help?

been using the z for about 10 days now after 8 months on a drive. just driven home, approx 10 mile and was sitting at the lights 1 mile from home when the temp guage started rising and oil pressure dropped slightly. thought id make it home, but got back and temp was sky high. started making rattling noises like a diesel.

popped bonnet and somethins been burning - all the water had gone from rad.

pleeeeeeease tell me its not a gasket or somethin?

aaaarh!

:( Sorry to hear this mate, you any idea where the water has gone ? first thing to look at is when it has cooled down, open the rad cap and oil cap and hope there isn't any white muck in there is there is then its head gasket fella :(:( ( i hope it aint tho)

Good luck fella

Matt

oooo.....sounds nasty!-Don't put any water in until it has cooled totally!!! ;)

Then first off check for obvious leaks,Make sure there is oil to the level, then crack her up-let us know how ya go ;)

Sorry to hear that mate. Mine did that and it was the head gasket. Proper cooked mine though. Sounded like little pieces bouncing around in the engine. New engine was covered by warranty but total bill to the warranty company was £3000 and they werent happy :headvswal

I hope it's not your head gasket fella....

Really sorry to hear that bud, Something similar happend to me - a water pipe to the driver's side Turbo failed due to oil in the water contamination and that caused all my water to drain from the system. On expecting my engine the head-gasket was fine but there was a hairline crack in the head itself so the cheap option was to get a recon engine fitted as a new head alone from nissan was about £1000!! Check all your water pipes though + the rad for any brown soup!!

thanks for the feedback guys, left it for the evenin cos it was roastin and i couldnt see much in the dark! going out there now to top up and check leaks etc. Iv got a feeling it is the head gasket, had one go on an old renault couple of years back, just hoped there might be some known similar problems that wee a bit cheaper!

i shall keep posted!

hi mate. like everyone says i hope its not a head gasket. i had a similar problem a few months ago and it turned out to be losing water through a small fracture in the bottom of the rad, although the water seemed to be pi$$ing out as if there was a great hole in it. best of luck with your Z.

ok, just finished having a nose. found some problems but not sure what they mean! checked oil and water, oil was fine water had all gone so i filleed it back up again.

ran the engine and was fine at about 2500rpm for 5 min, raised it a bit to put it under a bit of pressure, then when i eased off it started smokin a bit.

i found -

smoke and oily residue from around the area of the fuel damper (from the engine by numbers thread) and coil pack. This was possibly coming from below?

small amount of smoke around the area opposite the battery. roundish object on the bottom rear nearside of the engine?

water leaking from engine. this was on the engine side of the water pipes, just inside where the thermostats are, and was leaking onto the pulleys etc.

throughout all this, temp guage stayed flat on its pin and car didnt seem to boost alot either?

any ideas? im now prepared for a big bill :( , so may use this as an opportunity to do some alterations if theres a lot of work involved (in for a penny in for a pound and all that)

bump

What did it sound like when run mate?-as bad or better?-also check for white smoke at the exhaust while running!

Could be you just got a leak and lost the coolant, which is all over the engine and burning off-Go for the simple things first bud!-here's hoping!!!

water leaking from engine. this was on the engine side of the water pipes, just inside where the thermostats are, and was leaking onto the pulleys etc.

Water pump gone AWOL????? Lost water ...everything got very hot..... maybe caused some other damage???

Anyone agree or got a different scenario. Bit of a guess really when you havent got the car in front of you!

cheers for that guys, water pump is a possibility, has been mentioned locally too. little bit of white smoke from exhaust when running. will have a butchers at the leak again during the week when i get chance. If it is the water pump, would it cause the rest of probs - i.e everything heating up real quick and smoking?
