Driving Back From An Alignment Check Today And The Z Started Running Real Rough And The Warning Light That Looks Like An Exhaust With Heat Coming Off The Top Came On Intermitently (o2 Sensor?).

Got It Home And It Seems To Idle A Little Like Its Got A Cylinder Out.

Pulled All The Connectors Off The Coils One At A Time And All Seem To Be Firing (couldnt Check The One Under The Balance Tube While Running So I Swapped The Coil On That Cylinder For Another To Check It. Still Same Problem.

Any Ideas Gratefully Received

That indicator is the Cat Overheat warning light. Usually suggests that unburnt fuel is finding it's way into the pipes and igniting in or before the cats

so this would indicate a cylinder not firing and the unburnt petrol going down the pipe?

Yep, that's right. Usually caused by a poor connection to a coilpack, sometimes by a failing PTU.

the car has had a slight misfire since i brought it so this could be the culmination of that problem.

is there a way to test the coil packs and ptu without resorting to diagnostics?

Best way is with a conzult, you could try pulling the coil packs one at a time and listening to the engine, maybe a good clean of the connections is all thats needed.

Thanks suffolkzx

if all else fails how much do you charge to do a diagnostic? and can u make it to essex? i dont think mine will make it to the end of my road at the moment.

Theres no rush as i only got the car for some weekend fun and dont rely on it for transport

I wouldnt charge anyone to use my conzult, I reckon AndyP is closer but if all else fails I am sure we can sort something out mate.

We meet again Andy!

i'm going to try a few things at the weekend.

If i get no joy can i contact you? I think you may be nearer.

Im convinced its a bad connection somewhere

I will be around some of the weekend, you have my number I think.
