I've noticed that some days my car seems super quick and the guage (standard, so probably not accurate) shows boost at the end of the scale (around 14psi). Other days it seems just average (like before I had boost jets and a JWT chip) and it only boosts to 11-12psi.

This can happen on the same day - yesterday in the morning it seemed normal (slow), but on the way home was boosting a lot more! And this morning, got stuck in traffic for ages, when I eventually got to a clear piece of road, floored it and it seemed to take ages to wind the turbos up, and seemed even slower than normal.

Anyone got any ideas? Maybe something is sticking somewhere? Maybe just the weather?? Or maybe something to do with the chip 'learning'??

I know the stock guage is crap but I would expect the car to boost at the higher level all the time.

(BTW. it's a Uk manual with JWT chip and 1.2mm boost jets)

Cheers,

Darren.

hiya mate. AFAIK 1.2mm jets would only boost as high as 12psi anyway. my 1.0mm give me around 15psi. the trouble with jets is that they are inconsistent (as opposed to an electronic controller) - and with jets you can get boost spikes which momentarily take the boost higher than what the jets were designed to give you. also, cold weather would make your car run better cos of the colder intake.

it's a good idea to get yourself an aftermarket boost gauge if youre thinking of running higher boost - i used to spike at around 18/19psi  which could easily mean goodbye tubbies!

I know what you mean...Fecking annoying init.

Suppose we need to get an electronic boost gauge really coz what we get are called boost spikes...Can vary from lower boost to extreamly high boost(can go over 15psi).

I also have JWT chip and A'pexi filter with 15psi boost jets(dont ask me what size as i aint rippin them out coz there an arse to get back in :x: )

Anyway....fine most of the time...just occasionally does it...but i lap it up when it goes over 15psi................WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....PPPPPSSSSSSHHHHHHTTTTTTT...PPPPPPSSSSHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

Thanks for the info mate.

Yeah, I do think my gauge is way off - I think I will defo look into getting an aftermarket gauge.

But I don't seem to get a 'spike'. I.e. it doesn't seem to boost high and then tail off - it seems to stay high or stay low. I only get it one way or the other per run. Or is that what happens when you get spikes?? But like you said - could be the weather.

Maybe a proper boost controller would be a good option too.

Ouch..get yourself a Aftermarket boost guage immediatly...it suicidle to drive around on increased boost without one.

One you have one, you can then start to work out whats going on with it.

Yup, defo time for a proper controller and gauge I reckon. Was gunna replace the 1.2mm valves for 1mm ones at the weekend too...he he.

Those boost controllers are fairly pricey though eh!! What one have you got? And where did you get it? Am I right in assuming that an EBC has it's own gauge - so no need for a seperate one of those as well??
