My TC problem. Wheel 0

Did a talemetry on my TC and the is a very dodgy signal coming from wheel 0. I have followed the instructions on TT.net. Does any one know which wheel 0 will be then. And which colour or wire will that be on the ABS. Most prob dodgy soldering on my part.

Wheel 0 will depend upon which order you connected the TC to the ABS cables and how the TC auto configured itself. You might be able to work it out from the DOS interface but I can't quite remember - it's not particuarly obvious or intuitive. There is also the possibility that you have a faulty wheel speed sensor, not sure whether that would cause an ECU error (Andy Duff???).

How many pulses per rev are the wheel speed sensors set to ? Mine is 40 and that seems to be fine.

regarding the wheel pulses per revolution, the value of "40" is just the default value that comes with the Racelogic system.

To find out the true value for a 300ZX you will need to do one of 2 things :

1) Call Nissan techie department and ask them. (Or ask them to find out if they don't already know)

2) Take a wheel off your car, and then take an ABS sensor to bits (mounted on the wheel hub or drive shaft probably) and phyically count the number of metal teeth on the little metal cog that's part of the ABS sensor. Enter this in place of the "40" value. One of us Supra guys did this and counted 48 teeth.

When this value is entered correctly, and the wheel diameters (in mm) are entered correctly then *and only then* does Racelogic system know how fast the rear and front wheels are turning.

For eg on a Supra the values should be :

Wheel Diameter driven : 636 (for 255/40/17's rear)

Wheel Diameter Reference : 643 (for 235/45/17's front)

Pulses / Rev Driven (i.e. rear) : 48

Pulses / Rev Reference (i.e. front) : 48

All of the above need to be right for Racelogic to know the full story. If they're wrong, you'll simply be getting more slip (or less slip) than you've dialed in on the "slip selector dial".

That is a good point and RL tend to refer to this as fine tuning. The difference between the slip between the driven/non-driven wheels is more important, hence the default values, in this case, are OK.

Of course getting it to work perfectly would be the best thing to do. If anyone knows the correct figure for a 300zx, then I'd be pleased to hear it.

Just thought of an easy way of determining the number of pulses per rev. Jack the wheels of the ground and rotate them slowly one rev whilst counting the pulses on the TC light.

Incidentally, the rotor in the manual appears to have 46 teeth, but that is no guarantee that the picture is anything other than a general representation.

Just spent 'kin ages searching twinturbo.net and have found this :-

http://www.twinturbo.net/cgi-bin/ttnet_viewmsg.pl?forum=main&msg_id=650815&words=00046

It indicates that, as in the workshop manual picture, there are 46 teeth on the ABS sensors, therefore the default of 40 should be corrected for our Zeds. It also spells out how to set the wheel diameters, for those of us that are crap and counting and fings !

It doesn't bother to mention it but the wheel diameter will actually change by a small-ish amount as the tyre wears. Not much you may think, but 6mm of tread equals 12mm difference when it's gone !
