I have just been told by a main dealer that he needs to take my cylinder heads of, he thinks the head gaskets might be the cause of my 300 zx not starting.

Does anyone know of a mechanic near to Chester who could look at this for me. some oe has mentioned Andy Duff and Johnny Grasshopper.

Does any know of these guys.

what problems did you have to start with ie..was the car overheating loosing coolant/oil or running like a bag of shite, have you had the symptoms of head gasket before this non starting problem!!

welcome by the way :D

naneek, im only in ellesmere port, not suggesting i'm a mechanic or nothing but whats up with it? does it turn the engine and not fire? does it not even try to start? does it start then die? need more info matey.

Hi,

As Scoops says, a few more details may help with an answer. What I would say is I would never trust my Z with a main dealer!!

Vijay

Just echoing, stay away from main dealers with your Z.

Use the experts found here....

The oil pressure was showing 0-1 at idle. but picked up to 3-4 when running.

No coolant leaks ran fine the day before. When started fired up for about 2 seconds then cut out.

It turns over but it obviously isnt going to fire up. The day it died it fired up for 2 seconds then died a death

firstly, forget the pressure gauge, they're not accurate at all (unless you have new sender unit). Does it just continue to turn over but just not fire? are there any other symptoms?

It turns over but does not fire, prior to this it wouldnt pull cleanly from cold. It felt to me as if it just needed a bit of a tune up.

before you go worrying about HG id concentrate on niggly things that can cause a z to not start PTU might be a good place to look, have you done a ECU diagnosis?

sounds like the ptu to me, what year is your car?

Yup sounding like PTU.

If you do the diagnostics which VIjay has listed, we are hoping for a code 21 error.

No when I took it to the main dealer I sort of expected them to do that, they just wanted to take the cylinder heads of. Would not have been too bad if they had said that will fix it. sounded as if I was about to throw a great deal of money at it

Sorry bit new to all this what is a PTU, does anyone know of a good mibil mechanic who can do this or have I got to take it to a garage

email me your home number and I'll give you a quick call. The only thing is it'd be a nice idea for you to subscribe ;)

naneek - which dealer have you tried? If it was Hartwell then don't bother unless you just want spare parts, from experience they no nothing about the 300.

As most people are saying, it's most likely the PTU - if you can wait a week I can come and have a look at it next weekend, but I am no expert by any means and it may be better that you take advise from others on here.

If you are desperate to get it somewhere in Chester, try Crane Bank Garage down near the racecourse on Sealand Road, don't mention anything about a HG before you take it in and see where they start.

PTU

I was messing arround cleaning all my connectors the other week afterwards car would not fire, ran the ECU test PTU code came up all I did was pull apart and refit the connectors, been fine since

PTU or fuel pressue, difficult to determine without taking a look at it.
