has any one reconditioned their lifters? I know it is possible with z31 lifters but was wondering if you can do it with the z32 lifters, and what degree of success can be expected

Done it to mine mike when I rebuilt the top end, had them all sperated and cleaned, they was fine for about two months then had a nasty tapping apear. personally I would go for a new set.

I reconditopned mine 4 years ago when I rebuilt the lump. Some of them were very stuck indeed, I don't think they actually worked lol.

What you wil find when you take them apart is the sticky ones have a black 'varnish' build up on them. This prevents the chamber from pumping up and expanding.

Get some 1200 or 1500 wet & dry and rub the black coating off. Upon refitting they should now be nice and free.

Rob.

I would get finer than 1500 if you are talking about internal car parts.

I would say at least 2000 or 2500. you dont not want to put scores on the lifter.

It is unlikely you will with 1500 but you are even less likely with 2000 or 2500

Yeah true, finish it with 2000 or so then. Just get the main cr@p off with the 'rough' stuff. It was 4 years ago, and I cannot recall the exact grade I used now :(

Most important though, make sure all parts are thouroughly washed afterwards, you don't want any silicon carbide grit residing in the lifter assembly, wearing it away every time it moves.... :(

How much would a new set cost you back?

I think about £170-£200 for a set.

I got mine from the US when I bought loads and loads of things, so it was worth it for me.
