Question

The computer tells me I have an open or closed circuit on the detonation sensor, I think I may have found a dodgy piece of wiring, but cannot get to it at the moment, can anyone tell me, in this condition would the computer retard the ignition or leave it in the normal position.? as this could explain the lack of power I am experienceing at the mo.

You should have a code 34 then and that'll put you into safety boost - 7psi and retards the timing.

Hi Dave Im a newbie on here myself and just getting as much info on the Z as possible at the moment so I know a little about em before my Jap tt arrives in may , so from what I have learned already the detionation sensor (knock sensor) puts the turbos into safety when it fails they will not boost beyond 7 psi ..... cant help much more than that Im afraid but it could well be the reason for lack of power ......Nice ride btw.

Cheers guys this is what I wanted to hear :hyper: , hoping its the cable and not the sensor due to its location, I can expect the performance back with a simple rewire :hyper:

Does anyone know how critical the resistance value of 1MΩ is? I could only find 2.2MΩ resistors in my stash so I've stuck 2 in parallel to give 1.1MΩ. All seems well at the mo anyway. :) I reckon most of these sensors go due to excessive heat. On stripping my old engine down yesterday, I noticed that the plastic plug part of the det sensor had melted completely. :eek: :eek:

That link is spot on Vijay, Ive been searching for days for an article like that, I'll have a go at doing the test, cause there has been some soldering done here a while ago. this will help me see if there is a break in the cable at either end.

I think someone has completely removed the connectors off mine a soldered the *******s together, great job leaving me working on a connection right down the back of the engine. :headvswal

I'm gonna try to find out which pins of the ECU this bloody loom connects to and replace it along with a new det sensor on the back of the engine. I'm gonna use decent wire instead of fookin bell wire too!

I'm sure this will be shown in the wiring diagram in the manual, this is what I might have to do as well, but at the mo I think the wiring loom is too aged to repair, I just hoping its the right side thats knacked, :bow: please be the ECU side. :bow:
